Afterword notes that it was DBA 3. One caveat though – it also notes a combat factor of 6 for deep pikes (rear support) and 4 for the single element line of spears. In DBA 3 the spears should have gotten a flank support bonus of +1. This would have given the spears a factor of 5 as long as at least one of its flanks was still aligned with another spear unit. |

Yes that's right. I didn't want to list the entire list of tactical variables in the blog, DBA players will know them and the rest of us probably don't care – the main point is that Phalanxes have an edge of Spears so long as they keep together…. |
