In the miniature wargaming hobby, are your activities limited to a single subject or period? For example: only ACW, or only Star Wars.

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP01 Dec 2015 2:05 p.m. PST

No, nor do I know anyone who is.

Personal logo Herkybird Supporting Member of TMP01 Dec 2015 2:05 p.m. PST

Nope, we flit around from period to period each week!

JimDuncanUK01 Dec 2015 2:09 p.m. PST

Not on your Nellie!

21eRegt01 Dec 2015 2:13 p.m. PST

We are a short attention span group.

Bismarck01 Dec 2015 2:13 p.m. PST

I would have to say yes, but with qualifications. I may have bought figures for other periods and will game many, but my only actual army is Franco Prussian War. It has grown to around 1200 painted 15s and another 500 or so unpainted to cover the Republican phase of the war. This is what I have GMd and concentrated on for the better part of the past 25 years.

Two other periods are in the wings so to speak as I begin working on those.

Bashytubits01 Dec 2015 2:15 p.m. PST

One period? Surely you jest. I have never met a wargamer who does one period only.

skippy000101 Dec 2015 2:18 p.m. PST

Doubt it. Some will keep/maintain a core period for quickplay reasons. ImagiNations can recycle your use of core genres

Timmo uk01 Dec 2015 2:24 p.m. PST

No. Variety keeps the hobby fresh and interesting to me. I move from period to period adding a little to my collections here and there as I go.

Big Red Supporting Member of TMP01 Dec 2015 2:27 p.m. PST

I limit myself to 10 periods and I'm sticking to them. No, really just 10 or so.

Muncehead01 Dec 2015 2:41 p.m. PST

…..what D6 said…… >chortle<

tigrifsgt01 Dec 2015 2:42 p.m. PST

If you consider medieval one period. I have Anglo-Saxons, Normans, Templars, Hospitallers, Teutonics, Mongols, Saracens, Sohei, and Samurai.

Winston Smith01 Dec 2015 2:48 p.m. PST

Nope.

evilgong01 Dec 2015 2:52 p.m. PST

Almost, for a long while, 15 years of so of 90% ancients games.

But that stopped maybe 10 years ago.

Two periods for me – history, and not-history….

Tgerritsen Supporting Member of TMP01 Dec 2015 3:04 p.m. PST

Yes, I only game the limits of human imagination. Beyond that, I refuse to game.

14Bore01 Dec 2015 3:12 p.m. PST

I have sunk almost everything into one period so I'm the man you're looking for. But have played others but not in what seems a millennium.

Yesthatphil01 Dec 2015 3:12 p.m. PST

Historical periods, really but pretty much anything pre- say .. 1970s goes … (more recent than that is kind of 'current affairs' and can get wrapped up in issues of politics, taste and intent etc.) …

vdal181201 Dec 2015 3:21 p.m. PST

Nope, I don't think I could do it. As a matter of fact I know I can't do it.

Disco Joe01 Dec 2015 3:38 p.m. PST

Definitely not.

boy wundyr x01 Dec 2015 3:51 p.m. PST

Amongst guys I play with regularly, I can think of one with zero periods (he just plays with other guys stuff), one with one period (Naps), and one with two (WWII and Naps), although they're also boardgamers to some extent.

John Armatys01 Dec 2015 3:56 p.m. PST

No – I do all sorts…

Diocletian28401 Dec 2015 4:15 p.m. PST

I am in that category. My main interest is Late Imperial Rome from AD 250 to 400. My miniatures are mostly from that period, that is what I am actively painting, and that is what I game with when given the option or can chose for a tournament or open event. I do have a few armies from other periods, but they were assembled for some period specific events I wanted to do at the time.

Dynaman878901 Dec 2015 4:45 p.m. PST

No. I listen to Country AND Western.

richinq01 Dec 2015 4:45 p.m. PST

Cleared out my wargame stuf to just have frostgrave though I will play anything. Lasted about a week before I got ascifi squad from studio miniatures. Lol

gamershs01 Dec 2015 4:56 p.m. PST

Reverse the question. Is there one period I am not in. The answer is I am not in medieval. OOPS!!!! I do have that one unit of Knights.

epturner01 Dec 2015 5:05 p.m. PST

Hardly.

Eric

Rudysnelson01 Dec 2015 5:29 p.m. PST

Nope, even when I was in the army, I played Napoleonics, Anceints and WW2

jeffreyw301 Dec 2015 5:36 p.m. PST

Napoleonics only…

Doug MSC Supporting Member of TMP01 Dec 2015 6:25 p.m. PST

Ragbones01 Dec 2015 6:39 p.m. PST

Nope. But now that I've retired I'm focusing my time, energy and resources on fewer periods.

WarWizard01 Dec 2015 7:09 p.m. PST

I wish I could stick to one SCALE!

peterx Supporting Member of TMP01 Dec 2015 7:16 p.m. PST

Nope. I game all kinds of periods and scales (historic and fictional).

kallman01 Dec 2015 8:12 p.m. PST

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha…wait yer kill'n me here. grin

Although I have been seriously paring down my collection and the number of periods I am going to collect/paint/play/run at cons. I will of course play just about any period or scale/size folks want to set up.

Joep12301 Dec 2015 8:32 p.m. PST

No way am I a one period gamer!
Heck, even in a certain period I jump around from the scale of the gaming to what side I'm collecting.

Cyrus the Great01 Dec 2015 8:40 p.m. PST

No.

Sundance01 Dec 2015 11:13 p.m. PST

I wish I was. How I envy them.

Mad Guru01 Dec 2015 11:26 p.m. PST

Almost. Two periods, but one of them -- Late Medievals -- pushes the boundaries of "period" by including HYW, WOR, Swiss & Burgundian Wars, Condottiere Wars, Hussite Wars, Ottoman/Hungarian/Balkan Wars, etc. My other period is the 1878-1880 Second Afghan War, which has unilaterally taken up almost all of my hobby time for the past 5+ years, even though the war itself barely lasted three. But I'm happy to play just about anything if someone asks.

Martin Rapier01 Dec 2015 11:56 p.m. PST

No. Multiple periods, multiple scales, and in some very sad cases even the same units for the sane period in different scales….

advocate02 Dec 2015 12:20 a.m. PST

No.

GurKhan02 Dec 2015 2:27 a.m. PST

Yes, I'm almost solely into ancients with very occasional ventures up to 1700 or so being very much the exception. But I'm primarily an "ancient warfare enthusiast" rather than a "gamer", I suppose.

vtsaogames02 Dec 2015 2:43 a.m. PST

No. Punic wars through WWII.

bruntonboy02 Dec 2015 3:16 a.m. PST

What a strange question and I am not sure I fully understand the concept….

ZULUPAUL Supporting Member of TMP02 Dec 2015 3:18 a.m. PST

No and it might be wargame heresy to do so! LOL
