I'm trying to finish up the the latest Kickstarter backerkit for Song of Blades:Hammer and Forge. I really like the Miners and though I've had no desire to get a bunch of 28mm Dwarves I'm considering it because they model my image of the classic dwarf very well.

My problem is they are $5 USD each. Isn't that pretty high for a 28mm figure. Isn't $2 USD-3 more typical?

If I grabbed one each of the miners I'd be looking at around 20-23 figures and another ~$100. I'm having a hard time understanding the value proposition here.

Please do not mis-interpret this as complaining. I really like them and may buy them anyway, I'm just struggling with why they cost more than typical 28mm figures.

Since you did not provide a link so folks like me can gauge the quality and know what you are asking about…

If I am reading it right (and correct me if I am wrong) the castings are in PEWTER, not a "white metal" alloy like many other miniatures are.

I love me some dwarfs… and for the quality of the sculpts shown, $5 USD ain't that bad. Granted, West Wind's "Dwarf Wars" are less; more in line with the $2 USD-$3 you are hoping for, but the WW sculpts are also not as dynamic, and are not in pewter. I think part of that premium is the metal itself (which I think is unneeded, but it's their KS.)

I'd be more upset that the SoBHF lots are in threes and it appear you cannot choose which three. I'd want to pick and choose.

They are on-par with Reaper-quality figures, and Reaper dwarf figs retail around $7 USD for the "white metal" alloy.

I think it is the "typical" interpretation that may have you spooked about the price – they are not typical.

I think it excessive to be in pewter and then charge extra for it, but they are nicer sculpts than what I would call "typical" at a price range of $2 USD-$3 per figure.

Again, that is if I am reading it correctly and they ARE in pewter.

Many companies use pewter. All our Oathsworn minis are pewter for example; and a lot of our customers won't buy minis containing lead, so for us, pewter is something we have to use.

It's fairly standard among scifi / fantasy manufacturers at least – I can't speak for historicals though.

Price-wise, they look about right to me. Most miniatures are just priced too cheap, in all honesty! That's why you see so many ranges never get finished, or just disappear completely.

Thank you, I missed that part about pewter. That explains it a bit more.

It does seem unnecessary if they will be painted anyways.

I backed it at $40 USD for the rulebook essentially. The rewards for that level were 2 miniatures. They are getting closer to fulfillment and you can add them on individually and in multi-packs.

I guess I should have watched closer during the campaign. All the sculpts were not shown initially (not 100% sure on that) and I could have grabbed a few 3 packs near the end for $12 USD ($4 ea.)

I'm excited about the rulebook and these guys have piqued my interest.

My problem is they are $5.00 USD USD each.

$5 USD ??? That's cheap. Some 28mm figures here in the UK are £4.00 GBP each. That's about $8 USD !!

For fantasy figures 5 USD or more is standard.

Pewter is traditionally 85–99% tin, with the remainder consisting of copper, antimony, bismuth and sometimes, less commonly today, lead. As stated above every company producing miniatures in the US and some in the UK produce their minis in "pewter". Reaper at one point had a line called P-65 which was primarily lead but had to have different warnings on the packaging label because of the lead content. They dropped their P-65 line when they developed their BONES plastic line.

$5 USD for fantasy dwarves is a pretty good price.
