Hi all, I've just added a post to my blog about the modifications I've made to KoW for Napoleonics. In case people are interested the post contains a link to the army lists and special rules needed to play. Or if you don't want to see my ramblings the file can be found here. Regards, Ferb |

How are you handling formations in these rules? A KOW regiment is deeper and would look more like a Napoleonic column. Do you allow them to form line by placing the constituent troops side by side for example? Or do you ignore actual formations all together and use the standard KOW Basing? |

We're re-using our Black powder figures based 40x40 and 50x50. We use them in a block 3 bases wide and 2 deep but this is just an abstraction and you could base them anyway you want as long as both sides do the same. So we're really ignoring formations and operating like in KoW. |

So do you consider the units to be representing battalions or brigades or is that abstracted too? I would find it difficult not to have the potential to form lines and column if the rules are operating at a battalion level. However, I can see that you could argue that the units are brigades and the player is commanding a Corps so like other similar level rules you dispense with showing tactical formations. |

Honestly we just used what worked for us without any great thought. |

Thanks for the reply. The ranges for muskets (18") and rifles (24") whilst consistent with KOW are completely at odds with the ranges for artillery (48"). If you really want to reflect a Napoleonic battlefield you might want to consider reducing the musket range to 6" and rifle to 9", while canister should probably be 12-18" I would suggest. |
