The 83rd Regiment of Foot was raised in Ireland in 1793 as part of the British build up for the war with France and was soon given the ironic nickname of "Fitch's Grenadiers".

The second battalion sent to Portugal in April 1809 with a certain Sir Arthur Wellesley would soon prove its metal in battle showing themselves as true grenadiers and becoming one of the veteran battalions of the Duke of Wellington's Peninsular Army.

Great work. These unit histories are why I can't get in to the higher level games. I like to see what the 2/83rd are doing.

Thanks for your comments chaps. I'm glad you like them.

Edwulf – I totally agree with you. I think the back story behind the units of our table top warriors is a an important and interesting aspect of our hobby, not to mention the fun and I don't buy into the idea that you can't include that aspect into the big battle scene that is Napoleonics. We play big games using several Corps and we can still see what the 2/83rd are up to and their part in the story of our game. Of course you need to use a set of rules that allow you to do that.

Cheers
JJ
