If you could pick only one… (for land combat)

Weasel28 Nov 2015 3:47 p.m. PST

15mm, but 10mm might edge it out if more companies jump in.

Cold Steel28 Nov 2015 3:50 p.m. PST

10 mm, hands down.

While recognizing the superiority of 10mm for its congruence between ground and figure scale, I would be awfully sad to bid farewell to my 28mm figures.

rvandusen Supporting Member of TMP28 Nov 2015 3:52 p.m. PST

20 mm is my preferred scale for WW2 and SCW

15mm, I'm a wargamer not a Model builder. Had friends that did a lot of 20mm, but the vehicles were always so fragile (1/72-76 scale kits). Looked great but I was afraid to handle them sometimes.

That and all of my terrain is 15mm

Bolt Action 28mm – excellent game and scale.

Florida Tory28 Nov 2015 3:54 p.m. PST

28mm. The newer sculpts and vehicle castings are outstanding.

20mm

Bashytubits28 Nov 2015 3:58 p.m. PST

1/285. I like to game larger engagements and PFC in C as well as GHQ make wonderful stuff in WW2.

Jamesonsafari28 Nov 2015 3:59 p.m. PST

15mm nice compromise.
Good for larger a tions also good for platoon level.

John Secker28 Nov 2015 4:01 p.m. PST

6mm, except for the smallest skirmishes. As someone said above in reference to 10mm, it's about ground scale vs figure scale. At the bigger scales your tanks should be engaging at something like the length of a tennis court. Even at 6mm there is scale distortion, but it looks a lot closer to reality.

gregoryk28 Nov 2015 4:03 p.m. PST

I game in 1:285, aka 6mm, but 10mm is a good compromise on scale, that tends to approximate the ground scale of most rules. 6mm is well supported with terrain and figures, and is affordable.

Cheers,
Gregory

If only one 15mm, but 5mm and 20mm both have advantages (and I have the major armies for Western Europe in all three).

Combat Colours28 Nov 2015 4:14 p.m. PST

15mm, lots of variety in fig and terrain manufacturers.

54mm/1/32 – Have lots and lots – a backyard scenario – or living room carpet

christot28 Nov 2015 4:27 p.m. PST

sorry…I can't pick one…
anyway,
different scales for different levels of command being depicted

Stormfather28 Nov 2015 4:35 p.m. PST

28mm. I have bucketloads of them painted and ready to go, and it's what my group plays. They look great on a well prepared tabletop. That being said, ground scale compression is an issue for the games. I'd love to pick up 6mm for some larger engagements but I wouldn't know where to begin, and doubt I'd be able to stop!

Although parting with my 25/28mm would be a bummer.

laretenue28 Nov 2015 5:30 p.m. PST

20mm for Company-plus (Crossfire, WWII Fire & Fury).

6mm for Battlegroup/Brigade (Spearhead).

warwell28 Nov 2015 5:38 p.m. PST

3mm. It's now my preferred scale for pretty much all periods

Dynaman878928 Nov 2015 5:40 p.m. PST

6mm, works great for everything but skirmish.

By John 5428 Nov 2015 5:41 p.m. PST

54mm, Crossfire. Well, it used to be, but the whole lot is nearly gone on E-Bay now!

6mm for me. Have 10mm and 20mm but because of room to game, it has got to be the little guys.

6mm is preferred, but I mostly game in 20mm because it's what the Little Prince (No. 4 son) likes the most

Calico Bill28 Nov 2015 7:10 p.m. PST

6mm, as I don't play WWII skirmish games.

thehawk28 Nov 2015 7:17 p.m. PST

20mm for the realistic figures, models, scenery.

15mm and 28mm Fanatik28 Nov 2015 7:31 p.m. PST

Need I say more?

LAP195428 Nov 2015 7:57 p.m. PST

20mm on my tables!

Pizzagrenadier28 Nov 2015 8:02 p.m. PST

28mm for those squad level games where each model activates individually. Down in the dirt with the grunts for that low level action in 28mm with a squad on a big table combines the feel of a diorama with the action of a movie.

And 6mm for a more realistic ground scale and bigger actions in 1:1 with a company on the table.

Both extremes appeal to me.

Hmmmm, probably 1/285th, but picking only one scale for WWII gaming is crazy talk………….
