Howdy folks! I picked up a box and a half of Betrayal at Calth and shared my thoughts on the contents (though not the game).

My conclusion is that if you are into the Horus Heresy and want a nice sized force of great plastics right off the bat (at slightly better than normal GW prices), this is for you. The models and options are just excellent. If you aren't into the Horus Heresy and you hate everything GW does just because GW does it, then obviously this isn't for you.

I remain indifferent to them as a company, but continue to buy models and play my own games with them in the world they created. And that's good enough for me.

So, if you are the first type, head on over and check it out!

Here's some pics of the models I have finished.

Wonderful stuff , my son siad to me when i said i would buy the forge world extras that would make up a decent great looking legion, "just paint these and do it forget the extras" might buy another set thought , still lower than what i had planned by 75%

That is what I did. I love the idea of playing the Heresy stuff but I wasn't quite prepared to pay FW prices for everything. I'll probably buy another set, with two sets you can make 5 tactical squads, one heavy weapon squad, two terminator squads, two contemptor dreads, a terminator captain. a chaplain and a standard bearer.

That is a pretty good army. Add in a couple of specialist units of your chosen Legion and maybe a tank and you have a very well balanced force.

I'm doing mine as World Eaters. I just finished the Terminators today and have another 9 regular marines as well as the characters left to paint. I played my first game with them last week. I posted a bat rep here.

Keith, when you get your Ultramarines done we should set up a scenario and run a game at one of the cons.

i started 40k when RT first came out. i stopped in 4th ed.
i may buy this set. it looks great.

btw, i quite like your luna wolves color. how did you do it?

Nicely painted stuff!

I just am unwilling to pay GW prices anymore. For any product.

I'am going all in on a "Bolter action" Game of Istvaan III. I pick up 3 sets and a extra set of Terminators and a dreadnought. So I'am doing traitors/Loyalist for all 4 chapters. Plans are a large game for this coming Summer.

Your painting is looking good!

Thanks guys.

Pictors: Nice! I hadn't thought of doing the 6th squad as a heavy support squad, but with the extra missile launchers or heavy bolters that works. I might pick up a second box and do that (which would make two and a half boxes for me…yeesh). I was so happy they did this box because I was also not willing to pay Forgeworld prices (conversion rate especially). I just really really hope they do a Beakie box some day. Then it will be Badab War everywhere for me…

I'd be interested in pairing up for a game some time. I will probably only have a partial Ultramarines force painted up but if they are defending it could work. Message me at keith _ stine @ yahoo.com and we can discuss the details.

John Lacour: Thanks! I painted it with a base coat of gray primer followed by a brush on coat of Sybarite Green. Then I washed it with Athonian Camoshade wash, and when that dried a second wash of Agrax Earthshade wash. This combo worked to give that patina look. Hope that helps!

Lion: I get that. I like their stuff and don't mind the price tag for it. Especially this box for this setting. It's a dream project of mine and I'm glad GW are doing it. But, I get that people are priced out of their market. I was when it was all still Forgeworld only.

Wackmole 9: That sounds awesome! You should post some pics when you get those forces painted. Love to see it.

I will post some pictures as soon as they are finished.

And of course people are shedding the spare rules, boards, dice and cards all over EBay-I picked all this up for a tenner- nice little game.
I wonder if they'll do hex based scenery items to 3D the whole experience?
