"U.S.-backed Syrian rebels launched an attack late last month on Islamic State militants near the town of Hawl in northern Syria. They regained control of roughly 100 square miles of territory, according to the U.S. Defense Department. "It was a fairly straightforward, conventional offensive operation," Army Colonel Steve Warren told reporters via video conference from Baghdad, "where we estimated … several hundred enemy [fighters] were located in that vicinity." Warren continued his description. "There was a substantial friendly force — well over 1,000 participated in the offensive part of this operation. And they were able to very deliberately execute the plan that they had made themselves."…" Full article here link It appears that this much maligned close-air support plane has a few more years left before it is replaced (maybe)… (smile) Amicalement Armand |

There was never any doubt it would. |

No doubt it would either. I always felt safer with those things overhead. |

We really need to build a replacement, the new wings will only last so long in combat operations. Something with the engines off a P8 Poseidon (to fix the underpower problem) and maybe some more internal fuel. I've seen some pretty mean-looking A11 concepts in video games, particularly in Dropship for the PS2. Enlarged fuselage to give some more lift and bury the engines to make some stealth. Not that you have much stealth with all the bombs hanging off the wings. Either that or a giant helicopter gunship (something like a Cobra built on the CH53K airframe), so it can be controlled by the Army and the USAF can pack hot sand. |
