Any good on line plates showing uniforms for musicians in Brunswick and Hesse Hanau uniforms from Burgoyne's army? They will naturally have a silly role to play in a Bennington scenario. |

Check out Reanactor sites. Just google the regt's,I know there is a Von Riedesel. The ones I have painted for Brunswickers are in yellow coats,w/ facing colors and red turnbacks. |

I read Mollo to say yellow coats in facing colors. And I would guess that Hesse Hanau would follow Hesse Cassel practice, but that's just a guess. |

I would say yes,Even though it was practice sometime not to on campaign ,when looking at the Troiani plates ,especially the regimental ones of Saratoga ,he paints them with the lace. And the Saratoga campaign is a personal love of Dons,he and his father would go to the battlefield every summer looking for artifacts. And being germans ,appearances are everything, despite the terrain.I think your right about Hanau,it's quite a lacy uniform, and the different sided Flag was quite the challenge to paint. |

The article on the German troops of Burgoyne's army, over on the Perry website, has details for musicians. This website is also a good resource on the Brunswickers: home.ica.net/~claus/PAGE2.HTM Just for the record, there's no "von" in Riedesel. Unlike many German officers in the AWI, his surname wasn't the name of the place his family came from (which was actually Lauterbach in Hesse Cassel). |

Omg! I'm guilty of von abuse! And here I am always so adamant about Rall having no von! |

Shameless plug: my late grandmother-in-law wrote a book about Reidesel and his wife (who went on the Saratoga campaign) called "The Baroness and the General". It was quite good, though no uniform information was included. Author: Louise Hall Tharp. The redcoats called her "Red Hazel". |
