We played with the english rules and the bombers were no longer overpowered. Still no chance of deploying a gothic class cruiser (except against marines/necrons?)so it counts as a dictator instead. link |

We played with the english rules Fortunately, your grasp of English is SO much better than mine of any other language. I've tried getting by with 'context' and 'Google translate.' Like that was fun. "The "green teram(team?)" rolled badly for leadership (6) while the red one rolled superbly (8) a fact which pretty much decided the battle." Did you have time for a second game? If the start is so lopsided, one could always swap the advantage to see just how great it is. ;->= Well done! Doug |

Are you rolling Leadership for each ship/squadron separately? The battle report made it sound as if you rolled once for each side. Not every detail was in the report, but it sounded as though the bad entry location made more of a difference than the Leadership rating! "Still no chance of deploying a gothic class cruiser" Do you mean that the Gothic is just not good enough? What is it that makes it so weak? |

Rolling separately just coincidence, you won't get me from there! And the Gothich's lances have a firepower of just 4, yes it wounds at 4+ but compared with the 12 (albeit normal batteries) of the dominator (+nova) it's just ridiculous What country are you from the beast, there are rules in at least english, french, spanish and (that i know) |

The Dominator looks far more powerful at first glance, but those 12 batteries are affected by more factors than the lances are. Ignoring blast markers and target aspect are big deals. Of course, the shift for being at less than 15cm is a good thing :) Anyhow, a Dominator firing at the Beam aspect of a Gothic at 16-30cm only rolls four dice looking for a 5+. (If the Gothic was moving away, the Dominator would fire six dice, but the Gothic has other problems, what with being in such bad position. In any case, six dice for 5+ is almost identical to four dice for 4+.) Overall, though, I don't think that either the Gothic nor the Dominator are great dueling ships. They're better suited as part a fleet. That Nova Cannon is neat, but the Dominator really needs to hang back to use it effectively, and the Nova Cannon is much more effective firing into a mass of ships where even a scatter is going to do some damage. Similarly, the Dominator is much better in a fleet action. It lets the other ships on its side fire first, then it follows up to finish off targets by ignoring the blast markers. (Some suggested tactics reverse the firing order …) Interestingly, the Gothics are better if you have to fire your main armament at ordnance. The Dominator gets a whole 2 dice (for 6s), while the Gothic keeps its 4 dice (for 6s, though). |

No, no, I'm an English speaker. Well, I know those who'd claim otherwise… I was just saying I've tried using other rules that hadn't been translated into English. Usually someone's Beta, and you know they can be unclear in first place. ;->= Doug |

While not "strictly" official, get the "BFG 1.5" FAQ PDF link There's a pretty good VASSAL module, but I'm not sure if it works with the latest versions of the VASSAL program link Ah! The VBFG Yahoogroup! link |

I was into BFG several years ago. I had an Imperial Fleet and a Chaos Fleet and a few of some of the other Fleets and I played the game several times and liked it a lot . But over the years I grew apart from the game and sold all the ships along with books and other things I had partly because I didn't have the room anymore to play those type of games. |
emckinney | 29 Nov 2015 3:20 p.m. PST |
Well, that's the joy of VASSAL. No space requirements, no need to buy miniatures. :) |
Captain Gideon | 29 Nov 2015 9:41 p.m. PST |
emckinney I understand that but for me I've moved on to other things and am busy doing those games. |

BFG is enjoying something of a resurgence at my local club too (well, there are three of us playing and a couple more hovering on the brink of joining in lol). Great fun, and the ships are quick and easy to paint and yet still look awesome on the table. |
TheGaffer | 30 Nov 2015 2:50 p.m. PST |
We've got a couple of fleets in our club and play from time to time. Hopefully GW will support the game again and there will be more interest. |
