It's a retread and an oldie, but one as asked for by Kyoteblue, so here's one for you! It's not every time that I get to rhyme… Anyway, this was a clash between Russian VDVs and US Strykers. The scenario was that the Russians won the 2008 war and were pressing on the Georgian capital, Tbilisi. President Bush warns the Russians that this will not be tolerated however Putin ignores the warning and rushes Russian mechanized forces forward.
To save Georgia President Bush orders elements of a Stryker brigade, which just finished the "Immediate Response" exercise, to redeploy and defend the captial. The Strykers unloaded their gear and race forward from Tbilisi to secure the approaches to the capital. They encounter an advanced VDV patrol near a vital hill overlooking Tbilisi. The US commander, under orders to meet the Russians head-on, orders his advanced guard to take the hill!
A brutal battle ensued with the Americans struggling to advance in the face of devastating VDV fire.
This was my first game of FUBAR and it was played with its basic rules- warts and all. FUBAR is a wonderful game and it is also wonderfully frustrating. It is so close to being the perfect skirmish game.. if only the Craig would work it a bit more! Here's a link to the free rules: PDF link And to the battle report. link |

While I'm thinking about it here's a link to another version of FUBAR that might fix some of the issues I've had with the game: link It says Sci-Fi, but it's easily converted into modern. |

Cool man, thanks for posting. And only the Army would lose a battle just to go to chow ;) V/R, Jack |

Hey, I didn't give the recall order. It was the old lady. And when the old lady says it's an order and you DO what she says. No debate! LOL! |

Yeah, I'm on board with that man. Were all the US from Rebel Minis, or were others mixed in? V/R, Jack |

All of the Russians, my American squad, and the Stryker were QRF. Jeremy's Americans were Rebel Minis. I'm in the process of replacing them with Khurasan US troops and Strykers.
I need some HUMVEEs too!
My new Russians will have QRF and Khurasan vehicles and Eureka and Oddzial troops.
I have to say, I prefer the O2 figures. They are really nice figures! |

Watch out, I'm told Khurasan are much bigger than everyone else's 15mm. Before you order Americans, hold off until I post my next set of troops. I just finished their bases, and they look fantastic! Not because of me, they're just amazing figures. I'm talking about Flytrap Factory's 15mm USMC, they are awesome. I painted them up in the U.S. "Multicam," and I love them, they just became my favorite figures in my collection. Sorry to gush like an idiot, and not post photos yet, but I don't have time now and know I won't tomorrow either. But I'll post them ASAP (Friday). Oh, and I really want to get into those Eureka troops. V/R, Jack |

Watch out, I'm told Khurasan are much bigger than everyone else's 15mm. Not really. They fit very nicely with Rebel Minis but are a bit stockier in some ranges like the Exterminators. Check out this picture:
Everyone one of these infantrymen are Khurasan. But if you look back between the two Valkyries you'll see a Rebel Minis Post Apoc Survivalist. It's the figure in the pic below to the far left: link He mixes nicely with the Khurasans. In fact I routinely use Rebel Minis and Khurasans in the same games and have been ok with the results. I already have a platoon of the Americans and they are some of my most favorite sculpts. I just hate the M249 bipods which keep falling off! GRRRRRRRR… I've never seen the Flytraps but they look great on the site and the humvee convoy with troops looks like a sweet deal. I might have to grab this set to evaluate them. I can always DX the troops and keep the vehicles. But from what I see the grunts look great. Yes, the Eurekas are very nice, but the O2s are better IMO. Here's a better pic of the command/weapons pack.
I'm getting some BTR 80s and BMDs for these boys so they can be VDV and motor rifles. I would like a replay of this scenario with my new toys and the updated FUBAR rules. |

THat's weird. The Khurasan soviets I got are like a full head taller than QRF and PP. Maybe it varies by range? |
Tgunner | 25 Nov 2015 6:51 p.m. PST |
I think so. Most Khurasan figures I have are somewhat thin and tall while the Exterminator line tends to be a bit shorter and stockier except the last little batch, the command team, which is taller than the rest of the Exterminator line.
My rebels are also rather tallish and thin

FUBAR is a good set of rules. One of the biggest complaints was inactivation of poor units. That can easily be rectified by using the same values in the rules, but switching to using a D10, or D12 for activation die rolls, instead, so even poor units still activate most of the time, but may fail at critical points during the game(s). |

The game also had some crummy vehicle combat rules too. You got a lot of silly results like a MBT hitting an APC full on and only knocking out a machine gun. |

Just Jack: The Flytrap minis are great! The USMC are my figures of choice for both American Marines and with a few modifications, Canadians. Their Royal Marine Commandos are great and their modern Germans are outstanding. But the piece de resistance are the Taliban fighters and civilians, now reinforced with Taliban support weapons (which are on order but have not arrived yet). They are lovely little figures with such character and personality. Flytrap's Humvee's are great models too! I have not seen their British paratroopers yet but they will be great too, I am sure! The Enigmatic Baron Trapdoor has done stellar service for hobbyists with his fine line of figures, so thank you Anton and keep up the great work! The Khurasan minis fit well with Flytrap minis, but are larger than Peter Pig and Eureka minis. The are lovely castings and seem to be painting up very well. The Peshmerga fighters are beautiful and their small Taliban selection make a nice addition to the Flytrap minis. The Somaly pirates are good and their Cold War stuff is top of the line. Cheers and good gaming. Rod Robertson. |
