… Gaulle aircraft carrier after Russia takes out 472 ISIS targets in weekend bombing missions. "France scaled up their attacks on ISIS targets in Syria after doubling their strike capacity following the deployment of one of its top aircraft carriers. French fighter jets bound for Syria launched for the first time from its Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier. The arrival of the carrier has meant that the capacity of France's air power has doubled with the vessel able to carry up to 26 jets. After a few days of practice, French fighter jets were deployed from the carrier and used to hit ISIS attacks in its de-facto capital of Raqqa in Syria…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

So, we'll be needing those 1/600th Rafales, sooner than later, in case anyone is reading this. They really are lovely looking jets. |

…we'll be needing those 1/600th Rafales… But are ground attack missions fun on the game table? |

Maybe they'll be doing CAp for Russian Su 24? Rafale vs F16, very goog for exports. |

"Rafale vs F16, very good for exports." Only if you win….. |

The Charles de Gaulle is one of France's Carriers. What are the other(s) ? How many, 2-3 ? |

They could be, and then there's always the whole air-to-air engagements since someone over-reacted, or has another agenda. Russians defend Syrian territorial sovereignty by downing coalition jets not authorized to be in Syrian airspace? Seems like their argument could be as good as that of the Turks. British buy Rafales after they ditch the F-35s, for their carriers. |

Legion4 Other carriers only on pigeons Country is broke Never enough personnel Money is running into roundabouts in nowhere, corruption, clientelism, buying peace…and whatnot. |

Rafales are no good to us Brits, the carriers aren't fitted with catapults |
Legion 4 | 24 Nov 2015 3:54 p.m. PST |
That is kind of what I thought Jcfrog. But the article said " following the deployment of one of its top aircraft carriers.", so I was a bit confused … JARROVIAN how many Carriers does the UK have. Last I heard it was 1 ? |

Mako, are you aware of the controversies around the cost per unit of the Rafale? Choosing Rafales over F35's would hardly be a savings. Rafale has a very storied development, and that story hasn't been so good. |

What's the French soldier's drink of choice? Wine? Beer? Hard alcohol? I need to know what I need to start buying! |

Maybe up to 25 % of army rank and file are muslim… Otherwise it used to be a lot of Kronenbourg beer Red wine during meals. |
Risaldar Singh | 25 Nov 2015 8:14 a.m. PST |
Or rather, 10 to 20% are thought to be of North African origins (there are no religious stats in the French Army). An awful lot of them will down a Kronenbourg along with everyone else. |

Thanks JARROVIAN … they are expensive beasts to build and maintain … |
Legion 4 | 25 Nov 2015 8:37 a.m. PST |
An awful lot of them will down a Kronenbourg along with everyone else. That is probably true of most soldiers unless they a strict islamists, etc. … |

singh, you are right, I was just thinking loud old habits might have been lost ( also lots of women now ) Yes very likely 50% or more are not superstitious. But we do hear of problems here and there. Of course they can't have a rap sheet so it sort of limits some enlisting. Btw if they don't turn up to be alcoholics like it was too often in the old times it would be just as well. |

Btw if they don't turn up to be alcoholics like it was too often in the old times it would be just as well. Ah, the good old times of NCOs who thrived on Vitamin K! ;-) |
