So our inaugural DBA tournament at AdeptiCon is roughly 25% sold out after the first evening of registration. Should be a great event. I'm kinda hoping we get an odd number of players so I can sit in with my Argive hoplites!

DBA 3 Big Battle Game in 25mm

Adventures of King Arthur, 25mm Giant DBA 3 game of King Arthur vs the Saxons. Can the Sarmatian Knights and Kira Knightly with the Picts defeat the dastardly Saxons? You decide the outcome.

I will be doing the King Arthur game, based on the recent movie.

The tournament specifies armies but not scale. I presume 15mm?

DavePauwels24 Nov 2015 11:48 a.m. PST

Yes! Sorry – it's not in the PDF flyer, but it is in the tournament description:

As the haze cleared and the sun rose, the enemy battle line came into view. Across the horizon, the hoplites of a dozen city-states formed a phalanx 10,000 men across and 8 men deep. The sounds of pipes drifted across the field, Spartan pipes. All at once, the phalanx stepped off; the battle line had been committed. The battle had begun.

Join us for the inaugural De Bellis Antiquitatis tournament at AdeptiCon 2016. Using the critically acclaimed version 3.0, this 15mm tournament will feature a 5-game Swiss style format.

This is a themed tournament, featuring the period leading up to Greek military domination through the rise of Rome. Terrain will reflect this theme. Tournament Scoring, Victory Conditions and list of allowable Classical Armies (600 BC – 146 BC) can be found here.

Also, about the theme. Since this is our inaugural event, I chose the theme based on what I thought might be popular, but also my favorite period, generally. I figured that the actual players could have a say/vote for the following year's theme. Good idea or bad?

This is a great starter theme. Excellent plan to have the participants pick the theme for next year. You could give a ballot with a half a dozen choices, or ask the members to just write down what they want and let the participants vote from among the options. Then a runoff from the top three.

Bob, interesting you are using the Scenario book by Two David's productions.

Which scenarios are you planning to run?

Battle Cry Bill24 Nov 2015 9:03 p.m. PST

I am running the historical match up tournament. I will be using Hastings as one of the 4, but not sure which other battles yet, probably the later ones. I may make a substitute too based on available armies.

Devel, don't know what you're referring to. My game is based on the 2004 docudrama "King Arthur".

Dervel Fezian25 Nov 2015 12:59 p.m. PST

I was referring to the title?

I am not familiar with that publication. Is there a battle involving King Arthur included?

Dervel Fezian25 Nov 2015 3:15 p.m. PST

Oh, surprised you haven't heard of it…. It has an entire series of battles for that embattled isle and all based on DBA…. It's version generic, so it works for any version players want to use.
