Other than Yorktown, did they participate in any other battles? Thanks. |

They fought in Rhode Island in 1778? |

And for a what-if scenario, they were also besieging New York with Washington's army before the armies shifted base to contain Cornwalis at Yorktown. |

Also in the Caribbean against the British without Americans. So, that yields at least five engagements. I'd guess we all paint quite a few units that didn't see that many actual engagements. Of course, maybe not a lot of duplication of specific units between the five campaigns. But you want French, you field French. They're your toys, you get to do as you like with them. Right? |

I'd say watching New York rather than besieging. They were considering an attack when Cornwallis got their attention instead. I saw a great board game scenario for two players based on storming the Yorktown redoubts. French attack one, Americans the other. Each player also commands the garrison of the other redoubt and see who can storm theirs first. |

If it helps, here is a breakdown of the French units involved in the relevant scenarios in the Caliver/British Grenadier" scenario books: - Savannah: Armagnac (12 figures); Dillon (12); Gatinais (18); combined grenadiers (24); combined chasseurs (24). - La Vigie: Armagnac (18 and 18); Auxerrois (18 and 18); Viennois (18); combined grenadiers (18); combined chasseurs (18); Guadeloupe Colonial Battalion (18). - Yorktown: Gatinais (18); combined grenadiers (18 and 18); combined chasseurs (18). - Gloucester Point: Lauzun's Legion (28 cavalry and 12 infantry). If you'll excuse the blog pimping, there are various thoughts on scenarios etc in my series of posts about the French here: link Giles |

I was beaten to the punch; there were some minor actions in the Bahamas. |

I always thought it would be fun to do Pensacola and the Caribbean actions. |

The latest "British Grenadier" Scenario Book (#4) has a scenario for a battle in India, of which there were quite a few during the AWI and through to 1785 or so. |

In addition to the campaigns in India and the Caribbean mentioned, French troops were also present at the siege of Gibraltar, and don't forget the famous battle of Jersey!! |

You get two different " armies" in America (or rebel lands?) The first ones ( e.g. Savannah) are " garnison des vaisseaux" and from.the islands. Can be of older uniform types ( more tricornish than bicornish) no flags detatachments of plenty of colonials and metro units stationned there. Very nice for "uniforms." navy command. The other one with Rochambeau is the sort of test corps ( testing new tactics, Gribeauval guns etc.) directly from France. Army command. Have no doc here, and way to lazy to check, so from memory they hardly fight the same battles. |

I believe some of the French troops at Yorktown were brought up from the islands. |

Yes 6000+ 3000 from the fleet. |

@ GiloUK; Marvelous figures! You're prompting me to finally paint some French AWI figs I bought about 20 years ago! |

Agree on Gilo's figures. And its nice to know I'm not the only one with a backlog of figures that goes back more than a decade or two and awaiting paint! |
