Not sure that the Charlie G carrier in the Sections gets away with an SMG – I didn't! The only SMG in the platoon was carried by the Platoon signaller in the headshed together with his Clansman PRC351 or Larkspur A41 radio…otherwise looks good for leg infantry. (The GPMG group would be led by a Lance Corporal). In my TA battalions we didn't ever exercise, train or deploy with the 2 inch mortar, although they were part of the org on paper. May have just been an oversight. |

I was the loader on my TA units GPMG and designated medic to boot (That should have taught me not to be a and pass the basic medical test with flying colours). I carried an SLR in that role most of the time. We rarely ever had sufficient ammo for the GPMG in training for me to have to lug spare belts around! Like Navy Fower Wun Seven I never saw a mortar in the flesh. Then again we were not equipped to first line scale. |

Glad its not pee….. :) Seems to be lots of carrying and slogging in the British Army…. I was short term TA – spent most of my time standing…. |

Carrying things and standing is one thing. Tried to count the number of times I saluted each year. A lot of time spent with one hand in the air. |
