Hello! I am looking to get a new army for DBM. I have landed on Book 3 Rus 9th-11th century as I don't have a book 3 army nor a spear army yet.

My question is, what figures should I use? I know Two Dragons has some figures, but I have not found any painted images so I'm skeptical. Would any of the Splintered Light ranges work? Welcome to any comments and suggestions. Thanks!

I incorporated a number of 28mm Old Glory Rus in my Viking army. The main visible differences are that the Rus used a rectangular shield, instead of the Viking style round shields, and the Rus have a larger proportion of their figures in Eastern style clothes, like boots and Santa hats. Given that, I should think you could work backwards and bulk out your Rus army with some Vikings, particularly if you could find a source of rectangular shields.

If you are doing 15mm, the Thistle and Rose range will be available any day now again and are very nice figures. I'm working on a pre-release Rus DBA army now. There are lots of photos on Fanaticus.org in the forum…

I have thistle and Rose Scots common I'm rebasing/touching up. Highly impressed with the figures. Any more info on release date and where to buy? I'd be down to use them!

Lots of pictures. Figures look pretty good. Still not sure when they come out or where to buy them.

My Rus army is a largely a mixture of Two Dragons and Irregular Miniatures. I may- eventually add in a pack or two of the Essex spearmen and maybe Old Glory but the army really is big enough as it is. The Irregular spsearman is a really good basic pose with lots of variety in dress and a shield that can easily be removed to swap with other designs if you require.I mixed a lot of Vikings into my army and gave some Viking types the square Rus shield and a lot of the Rus got Viking shields. Minifigs also do a basic infantryman that you can add to the mix. One thing worthy of mention…the Irregular infantry have very good, strong spears that a/ look the part and b/ are hard to bend or break.

Years ago, I put together a Rus army with figures primarily from Gripping Beast--figures were very nice. I'll hae to paint them up one of these days. grin

You could use some of the SL range, although they're more Nosrk, Svear, Dane vikings. Old Glory 15mm has a range of 15mm Rus but not much in way of cavalry. You could always substitute in their Slavic cavalry.

I would think you'd be able to mix in slav figures too for more variety – particularly for the lighter troop types.

I'm really liking the Viking figures from Baueda. I didn't know Essex had Russ figures, they actually aren't half bad. I wonder how they would look mixed in with Baueda figures? Thanks again for all the input guys!
