I have tried this and really like the look for Arab and desert type dwellings. One problem I have had is warping. |

I've done this myself. These make great buildings and a pretty cheap.
You can use almost anything to add details to the boxes. |

I went with a mix of buildings where the lid is up and down:
That way you can nest different buildings, and store more scatter terrain in the buildings, too:
