I'm building an American force and wish to send them into battle with music. Any CDs with period marching music????

Not specifically AWI, but some suitable tunes – I've got link (the others don't seem to turn up in the UK) – it is magic.

There are MP3 samples of the albums on the web site and some nice videos on Youtube.

Colonial Williamsburg has a site for its gift shop. They have a couple good fife and drum CDs.

Definitely the Colonial Williamsburg Fife and Drums, if you are looking for authentic 18th Century "musick"

My $.02 USD cents,

I have quite a few records, cassettes and cds of music of this era. One of my favorites is the 'Nathan Hale fifes and drums' listed above by 'Rallynow. If you are going to only own one item---that would be it!

Like AuttieCat I have a large collection of both ACW and AWI music and agree the Nathan Hale is the one to get. It's period music recorded out side fot the authentic sound, listen out for the crickets.

Though it wasn't all marching music, the best AWI album I've ever heard was the one we grew up with, put out by National Geographic in the 70s. I'd guess it was to celebrate the bicentennial. I LOVED that tape/album and would kill to get it again, but alas, it seems to be long gone.

(The companion Civil War album was equally superb.)

@sneakgun

Are you looking for the most possible AUTHENTIC military music of the AWI available?

If yes, forget the Middlesex County Volunteers, the Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums, or Nathan Hale. They have disqualified themselves by using bass drums. Middlesex County Volunteers arrangements, moreover, are quite modern.

For fife and drum I recommend:

brigade.org/publications/mmar.html

For both fife and drum and band music I recommend:
