I'm painting up a batch of Botocudo Indian warriors – naked guys from the Amazon with soup-bowl haircuts and wooden plugs in their ear-lobes and lips. I have limited visual reference on Botocudo Indians. Nearly all the pictures I have show them walking around in their bare skins, with no detectable paint or other decoration. This strikes me as unusual. Most Indians I know of who weren't yet assimilated to Euro-white culture wore a lot of paint, for cosmetic or spiritual reasons, and would not go to war without their best paint on. So, can anyone confirm/deny for me that Botocudos, in particular, rarely or never wore paint, especially didn't wear war paint? Or can you link me to pictures of Botocudos wearing paint, especially war paint? Thankyew. |

They did indeed wear warpaint, heaths book on south america discusses it as does hemming red gold…fantastic read on the subject. The botocudo ate also the aimore and are a Ge speaking tribe who were nomadic cannibals Here is a game I played with my tribes TMP link A little more info link Warpaint was often red and black but they tended to be on the face and upper body and less so on legs etc |
