I have a number of metal 20mm WWII British and German figures. I would like to add to them but want to make sure I get something that is similar in size.

They have an MR on the bottom of the base.

Does anyone know who the manufacturer is?

TIA

That could be MLR. They were the forerunner of FAA.

Can't tell just from the base view though. :)

Agreed.

Tarleton,
Thanks for the speedy response!

Here are some additional photos which I just took (my phone crapped out after the first shot I uploaded – ran out of storage!!)

The last shot is a comparison to unpainted Hinchliffe Bren gunners.

The Hinchliffes come in around 23mm (sole of feet to eyes), while the poor MR (mirliton? but they don't look like the current warmodelling offerings) officer is around 20mm (sole to eye).

Thanks for your help.

Nice looking figures, I wonder if they are still available?

Blacky75020 Nov 2015 2:39 p.m. PST

Yes, definitely MLR, or Combat Miniatures. Sadly though Stonewall who has them uses crap metal and there is more flash than figure these days. But you can pick them up on eBay occasionally if lucky, well worth getting even 30 years down the track

the sculpts are high quality!

It was this range of figures that got me into 20mm WW2 so many years ago. Ii got them under the combat miniatures range.

Thanks everyone for your input. Asking your indulgence for one more piece of input.

The consensus seems to be that they are MLR.

If I understand it correctly, these castings are now made under the Combat Miniatures range (hard to tell from the pictures on Stonewall's site), but they're not recommended because of the casting quality.

FAA was also mentioned, but they definitely don't have the same castings listed on their site.

Q: What current late war ranges (metal or plastic) are compatible in size with these MLRs? (Obviously the Hinchliffe ones I have are not!)

Thanks in advance (again!)

Go here to get a good general idea for figure comparison:

I would look at CP Models – ignore the fantasy on the front page and scroll down on the left to the 20mm Ranges:

Thank you again Mr. Kelly!

I know they are metal and metal does have a distinctive feel to it – not just in weight but also in knowing they are metal. A pride of ownership, perhaps.

However, with costs as they are I would suggest finding a plastics manufacturer that matches the figures. Possibly Plastic Soldier or Italeri or Zvezda or even Valiant (if they are larger – but they do not appear so – compared to the pictures and size guide). A good compatibility may be Caesar's British.

The thing is, you can get an entire box for the same price as just a few CP Models' figures. If you look at it that way, you can easily get a box of each plastic and look at it as just getting a sample of the other makes for size comparison. Basing on a penny will add to their weight.

Both AB and Wartime Miniatures here in Oz are compatible

However bear in mind the original British were done for Italy, but still lovel sculpts considering they are 30 years old

30 years is well into the lead period… Careful with the figures around the little ones! (Children that is, not other little figurines!)
