Some friends and i are considering collecting 30 years wars armies, mine would be the Swedes. We are unsure whether to go for 15mm or 28mm Warlord games appear to do a good range of 28mm? Foundry also have some but they look old and not a very big range?? Any other good 28mm, I thought Empress but they do ECW, are the figures interchangeable with a TYW period? Same for 15mm, who do the nicest models?? Andy |

For 15/18mm have a look at Totentanz Miniaturees. i think they are wonderful and growing as a range. |

For 15mm look at Testudo: link Totentanz (Spanish) also looks good, but I have no idea of the size (there are lots of differendes between one scale). And for something slightly different see the Polish By Fire and Sword: fireandsword.wargamer.pl/. A large offering of interesting armies from the 17th century (including the Swedes, but lots more) and lots of information. Mind: these figures are smallish so it pays to compare the various producers. |

I have a mix of Testudo, Totentanz, By Fire and Sword and Khurasan. All lovely figures, the Totenanz anf Khurasan cavalry are nice big imposing chaps, Tally Ho! |

As rct75001 says the Totentanz miniatures are 15/18mm and large in comparison to other ranges, in particular some of the horse are stretching and will not fit on common sized bases for the period. By Fire and Sword are nice figures and their early figures are small although some of the newer ones, particularly the are Brandenburgers are larger. Essex have a reasonable range and do particularly good supply wagons and artillery. |

Thanks guys, it is beginning to look more like 15mm. Testudo and Totentanz look very interesting, are the compatible sizes? I believe Totentanz are quite large, are Testudo as well. Andy |

The Testudo cav are smaller than Totentanz, the inf the same size. I think Khurasan now own Testudo, their own cav are compatible with Totentaz and they do some nice command figures. Tally Ho! |

So Khurasan do two ranges, their own and Testudo… |

That's Correct captain! The Khurasan range represent Imperialists and the former Testudo range is presumably everyone else. The horses for both ranges are compatible as they have the same sculptor (Mike Broadbent, who sculpted the whole Khurasan TYW 'own-brand' TYW figure range). The Testudo designer sculptor did the people for the Testudo range. I asume they're compatible as the all fit on the same horses. Hope that makes sense! |

Donnington Ancient and Modern have quite an extensive range for 30YW: link I'm not sure how they compare for size to the ones listed above, but they seem a bit larger than Essex. Old Glory 15s also have a 15mm range for 30YW. You might want to check out this page for other suppliers: link |

In 28mm all the basic types of German troops are available in the Old Glory 17th century Eastern Europe range. Infantry can be found in the Polish and Muscovite listings. |
