I've got a project coming up and I'm going to need quite a few of these. Looking for something around 12 inches or there abouts, can be cheap toy stuff and what not. Cheap is the operative word and looking for something close to your classic zeppelin shape if possible. I'm not interested in converting due to the number needed. Thanks for any help guys. |

Two two liter soda bottles. Cut off the threads at the top that receive the cap, cut off the bottom. Slide one over the other to desired length. Now all you need are endocarps – maybe some small plastic bowls from the dollar store. This will not get you lengthwise ridges, though you might be able to glue down some glue-soaked thread. On the other hand, if you need a bunch the time spend on each is going to be a factor, so skip that. Whatever you do, share pictures when you're done. |

Around 12 inches long would be ideal. |

I know I've seen a paper model of one. Would be easy to resize – then it's just cut and paste. Not sure how fiddly it might be though… |

Four possibilities, one jokingly and three more serious; #1 – Adult Bookstore: choice of size, scale and colors. #2 – Small Wiffle Ball bat or Fish Bat/Billy Club. I've even seen dog toys shaped as such. link #3 – Stress/Squeeze ball. Some are made in capsule shape and available from online promotional companies. link #4 – Pump up water rockets or something like the Estes rockets. link |

Here is the link to the airship page link from RAF's post. The 1:700 scale ones appear to be the size for which you are looking. Post some pictures of your results. Jim |

if you go the paper model route, look for r-100 |

thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll need too many to build paper models and they wouldn't stand up to the use afterwards as well. It just feels like there should some sort of 'cheap plastic crap' type thing that looks like a zeppelin available out there somewhere :) |

For just 12" long, how about a tube from a roll of paper towels and two foam eggs? Insert one egg each end (one blunt end first the other pointed end first.) Add fins and gondola and paint. link

Revell does a Hindenburg that's 12" long or so. If you can score a bunch of them using 40-50% off coupons at Michael's, that might meet the cheap target.

I'd go with one Revell kit and then use it to make a master mold and then make many more, probably out of plaster or out of some sort of spray foam that doesn't expand too much. You can add the fins and stuff with artist's board. These would be simplistic, stylized models rather than detailed models. But "good enough" I'd hope. Good luck. |

I understand that lead is relatively cheap. |

It may be too late iun terms of this debate, but you can still access the Major General's website link which tell you how to build a Zepplin. |

Easy to make out of sterofoam like you get from flower shops or arts and craft places. |
