The rules are based on a d6 however, a d5 is mentioned several times in this blog post. What is a d5?

I thought it was an Average Dice due to the comment of range 2 – 5 and doubles running of 3 and 4, but may be wrong.

I've usually heard that called an average die, or Dav.

I do own several d5s, numbering 1 to 5. But I think this is a reference to the aforementioned average dice, they've been around 40 years or so.

just kidding. It's a d6 with:

2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5

Yep, that's a (so called) Average die or DAv.

A D5 would have 5 faces numbered 1 2 3 4 5 (usually implemented witha D10 and subtracting 5 from scores of 6 or more).
