My understanding is that Earp carried an especially long barreled pistol at times to use to strike malcontents with. I don't know how accurate the story is, but I like the depiction.

From the link:
I gave him the "Buntline Special" (extra-long-barreled Peacemaker). I know he almost certainly didn't carry it at the OK Corral, but what the heck--it looks cool!

Paul, it's not the length of the barrel, it is the size of the frame, trigger guard, etc. That said, it may be the angle the photo was taken at.

A few others got those Ned Buntlines also(Bat Masterson, etc.) but most except for Earp, sawed the barrel down a bit to make it more manageable.

I really like these KD digital sculpts. Superb!

However, I wish Forrest would apply his digital magic on his war of 1812 range.

Colt has no record of Buntline ever ordering the pistols, not is there any evidence that Buntline ever gave one to Earp or indeed that Colt ever manufactured them in that period. Supposedly Buntline commissioned the pistols and gave them to the Lawmen in gratitude for all of the material (hundreds of stories is the common quote) they had given him but in fact Buntline only wrote four books, all about Buffalo Bill. Many Historians believe (although no one is certain) that on the day of the OK Corral shootout Earp was carrying a Smith and Wesson with an 8 inch barrel that he received as a present from John Clum.

Yea, I knew the Buntline story was most likely myth, but the whole reason that I like Old West gaming is the myth aspect.

79thPA, I see what your saying about the dimensions of the rest of the gun. I'll probably just live with that. Hell, I live giant swords on minis. Hopefully it is the angle as you say.
