Need your help gamers. I am looking for suitable plastic castle for 10mm on the cheap. The resin ones are too costly and the plastic Warmaster ones I have seen on ebay are about the same cost as the house I am living in. Local Dollar store was a bust, so figured I would check with you folks for help. No to fish tank castles. Thanks in advance for your help. |

If you want a cheap castle then I'd recommed scratchbuilding one. At 10mm scale then loo paper cardboard inner tubes make good round towers. |

Extruded polystyrene board, cut and carved to shape is the answer. Doesn't appear to be that difficult, but is a little time-consuming. Still, they are the best I've seen, and when well done, look very realistic. |

Card models? How big do you want your castle? Here is Toshach models "Dol Anduin". A free model. link Scroll down near the bottom. There is also a Helm's Deep model. That one costs a few dollars. They are designed for 10mm figures. |

What is Extruded polystyrene board? If it's what I think it is, it is a dense, foam insulation board. The Home Depot (and I assume Lowes) sell pink sheets of the stuff in 24" x 24" squares for about $6 USD a square. If you got the vehicle or want them to cut it down at the store, you can get it in much larger sheets. You can glue the sheets together, carve them, and paint them. The 24" x 24" squares are readily available, but they are an inch thick. I'm sure they make thinner sheets, which would be easier to work with for buildings. |

Sally 4ths laser cut castles are good and easy to build: link Also do a search on the blog for Toshach's print and build paper castles, which are excellent for the price. |

Yep, either pink or blue insulation foam, depending upon whether it is made by DOW or Corning. Can't remember who makes which color. |

Owens Corning makes the pink. |

Kibri kit 37304- Burg Branzoll. A decent sized castle in N scale (1:160th) that comes with the hill it sits upon. Very nice and IIRC, it retails for around 50 Euros. With the current exchange rate of 1 Euro =$1.10, that's not bad at all IMHO! If that is too expensive, chack out the card kits by Schreiber-Bogen (google it). I have their number 602 here called 3 small castles. (Better suited for 6mm, but they were cheap (maybe the equivillant of $5.00 USD ?) Most card kits will fit in a manilla style envelope so shipping would be cheap. I went with the Kibri kit. BTW, Kibri kits are being produced once again and seem less expensive now. Hope this helps. Kibri changed ownership A few years ago and prices dropped. Noch do some foam ruins in N although advertised as HO. In card there are dozens of kits for a few dollars, mainly from Czech shops like this
this is an 1820's model of Prag in card

Have you considered model railway terrain ? Faller have some nice N gauge castles which would look good with 10mm. Quite expensive perhaps : auction Although second hand can be got cheaper : auction |

If you're going that small (10mm) then try the card castles. You can get some from Dover Publications as well as from Usborne.
You can get many more and from many eras. Some are scaled for HO/OO (1/87-1/72 / 1/76) and others are suitable for 25mm and 15mm. Most buildings are way too small for the scale given, anyway, so many will work for many applications. |

If you're going that small (10mm) then try the card castles. You can get some from Dover Publications as well as from Usborne. I wouldn't use any of the Usborne castles for 10mm. They are "OO/HO" accroding to the publisher, but the ones I have scale nicely for 15mm figures. They'd be way too big for 10mm. |

MajorB – only some of the Usborne ones are listed as HO/OO scale. Even then, the figures that come with the set are undersized. The 'Make this Model Castle' (same as the 'Make This Castle' pictured above) has figures that are 16 to 17mm to the eyes (from the bottom of the foot). The doors are only 20mm high. It is only 15mm to the top of the crenelations. Yet, they claim this is HO/OO. It is fine for 15mm figures and should work for based 10mm. The Usborne 'Make This Roman Fort' is listed as 1:120 scale. The figures are 14mm to the eyes. The doors are between 17mm and 20mm tall (depending on where they are). It is 13mm to the top of the crenelations. The Usborne Make This Model Greek Temple has figures that are 9mm to the eyes. There is no listed scale on that book. I never got the 'Crusader Castle' nor the 'Medieval Castle' as they were significantly smaller than the 'Model Castle' one. Maybe someone on here has them and can give dimensions?

It is fine for 15mm figures and should work for based 10mm. Surely not for 10mm. A difference of 33% in height? Even allowing for a base, the doorways will look massive against a 10mm figure. OTOH, I have found (as have several others) that smaller buildings somehow work with larger figures (e.g. 15mm buildings with 20mm or even 25mm figures. Something to do with perspective maybe… |

If you find a friend that has an Old Glory Army card, the 10mm resin stuff is not that expensive(40% off), and it is really beautiful stuff. Quite a few options and very nice quality. Allen |

Surely not for 10mm. A difference of 33% in height? If some 10mm figures weren't really 12mm or more…and then add another mm or two from the base. These "few mm" differences are really in the eye of the beholder – some have no problem with then and some just couldn't live with the differences. |

Yes paper is cheap but does not hold up well for long term gaming. ??? I have a number of "paper" models I made several years ago. They are fine. The secret is to back them with cardboard. makes them much stronger … |
