Well spotted Armand my old friend – that looks truly amazing! |

I think the Russians make some interesting war movies, too bad they are not often translated to English (or if they are they often cost an arm and a leg and are not available for rent). I say "interesting" rather than good on purpose, the Russian films often (always?) make a "Hollywood" film look like real history. |

AFAIK – the movie was produced by Gajin – the developers of the "War Thunder" computer game. |

"Thanks… it works?…" They were invented at the tail end of WWI and were somewhat effective against the thin armor of the time. By WWII they weren't much use against anything bigger than a tankette or armored car. I don't know how they'd work against the MkIIIs shown in the trailer, but I wouldn't want to be the guy ordered to stop one with an ATR. |

Actually they remained fairly effective. Many still believe, wrongly, that German schurzen was introduced to counter shaped charge weapons like the bazooka and PIAT. It was actually designed to counter the Russian ATR. One source: link |

The trailer looks promising. Thanks for the links. About the schurzen: where they intended to deflect the ATR shot or conceal the tracks? |
Marc33594 | 23 Nov 2015 8:11 a.m. PST |
They were meant to provide protection for vulnerable areas on the lower side of the hull above the road wheels. As mentioned in the reference even the Panther apparently had this problem as the armor above the road wheels was only 40mm. The Russian ATR remained in service through out the war. |

also used as anti material weapon – armored gun shields, artillery pieces and walls. like the 50 cal sniper is used today |

Link to PTR manual from 1942 link even that it is in Russian, the pics are self-explanatory – they tell you how you should position yourself, and where to aim. If you have PTR concentrated fire, it is a problem to early war tanks – as Guderian recalls in his book. |
