Trying to sort out some possibly contradictory information… Were the collars for Russian dragoons always red, or did this depend on their regimental facings? Were Russian turnbacks on the rear of the dragoon jackets always red, or was this also dependent on the regimental facings? What was the base color and any trim colors for Russian infantry drums? What color were Cossack lances? |

Try this link. link I always paint dragoons with facing collar on collar, cuffs, turnbacks and shabraque edging. I think drums were brass with green and white tooth edge, but not sure if this applies to all companies/ battalions. There are a couple of Russian Nap experts on TMP- they may be along later. As for Cossacks: TMP link |

Not an expert… Agreed with dave on the dragoons and drums (I just did a couple of test dragoons last week). Do a Google search for Russian Napoleonic infantry to see examples of the drums. You can also do a title search on the forums here for Russian. Napolun is a good reference. Gingerich's page has the latest and most up to date notes, and is fairly comprehensive. Easier to get through than Conrad: link |

Dragoon collars & cuffs varied by regiment (see the Jonathan Gingerich page) link turnbacks were universally red. Infantry drums were brass, with rims of alternating white and green 'wolvesteeth' (triangles) for 'heavy' infantry (musketeers/grenadiers), and plain black rims for 'light' infantry Jagers. Lance colours for Cossacks varied by 'host' origin, so could be red, green, blue, dark blue, black with white metal or black with brass attachments; search Viskovatov for more details: link |
