Yes, though s-word is hardly worthy of a bleep. Times change, and I would think s-word is not quite as objectionable today as in ye olde times. |

Tim, You're right, and I have no idea why it is no longer 'bleeped.' Certainly it's not a medical term… Edit: How long 'til Twighlight Samurai gets what he's begging for? As Kyote posted, just 'cause you can say something doesn't mean you can say something. V/R, Jack |

why did it change? I took it out when I took out the medical words, as directed by the recent poll. However, since it is not a medical word, I perhaps made a mistake. (My first!) |
Winston Smith | 16 Nov 2015 8:36 p.m. PST |
It was indeed a mistake. You DHed ME! Not only that but the OFM too, on suspicion of being a known accomplice! |

You are correct, the proper medical term I most commonly hear used is bowel movement or feces, not sh**. |

Sierra Hotel One Tango is I believe at least partly (Australian) Air Force slang – as in 'He thinks he is a Sierra Hotel One Tango hot pilot.' Should be spoken in a radio announcer monotone. |

is one of those words that's an edge case. In can be used as an expletive but it is also an informal word for excrement which quite frankly a polysyllabic word that sounds to most people pretentious poop (see what I did there?). Like most things, swearing in moderation is one thing but the problem is agreeing what's moderate and what is not. |

What kills me is how willfully disingenuous certain folks are being about this. Come on, people. Everyone knows the word in question is vulgar/profanity. Even if you disagree with my opinion that profanity has no place in a civil discussion, profanity is not permitted on this site as per the FAQ. It's that simple. Yes, it's not being stopped by the "bleep" feature for whatever reason. But that does not somehow make the use of the term acceptable. Pretending otherwise just makes you look foolish. Good lord. I sometimes think this place is filled with a bunch of poorly behaved 12 year olds trying to make themselves look "all grown up" by spouting profanity every chance they get. |

On a more serious note, I for one would not use the word in question in polite conversation. Historically, this site has had rigid rules about what is/what is not allowed. The bleep-o-matic (aka Profanity filter) was introduced to enforce the profanity rules. If Bill in his infinite wisdom has decided that the word in question is no longer profane then who are we to argue? Of course, that does not mean we HAVE to use the word … |

If Bill in his infinite wisdom has decided that the word in question is no longer profane then who are we to argue? He implies above that it was accidently removed when he "unbleeped" some medical terms. I doubt he thinks it's "no longer profane". If the site software suddenly got more buggy than it is now and the "F word" or any number of racial slurs were no longer automatically "bleeped" out would that make it right to use them in posts? Yes, the word in question is generally considered not as harsh as these. But the point remains. I honestly think that anyone who is saying "Oh, this bit of profanity is no longer 'bleeped' so it must be ok to post it" is playing rule of law vs. spirit of law games and is being purposely disingenuous. (and thus deserves a little DH stay) But what do I know? |

The bleep-o-matic (aka Profanity filter) was introduced to enforce the profanity rules. And to protect people from breaking the rules. The S-word and P-word have been added back to the Bleeper. test |

Factually incorrect material in your statement aside, how do you feel about actually staying on topic and not posting "material intentionally designed to provoke a negative response"? |
