I got Combat Patrol this week, and posted on my blog about my first impressions. I like it. I like having all the information needed to fire, move, and rally on the cards. It makes the game run very smoothly.

I know it is a card game, but is it compatible for use with minis?

Its a miniatures game that uses cards to do firing, morale, etc. The cards take the place of charts and dice. You draw cards to resolve most of the actions that take place.

Thanks for the comprehensive review, Bill. I'm glad you like the game.

(Incidentally, I agree the font is probably not the most clear. I chose that font, Underwood Typewriter, to give the whole game a WWII "vibe." I wanted it to look like photocopies I've seen of WWII-era documents.)

Mako11: As Bill said, this is a miniatures game. The cards are used to drive the miniatures game while eliminating the need for big chart cards. This may be more clear if you watch the demonstration video I posed on YouTube: YouTube link

Thanks for the post. I will look for it at the next convention to get a chance to play.

Buck, Thank you for your Youtube video on Combat Patrol, very educational. Helped me decide on whether to try them out.

Thanks Bill and Buck,

Purchased after reading Bill's review and watching the YouTube video. Downloaded the full rules and I'm very much looking forward to reading them tomorrow.

Other Bill.

I think you will like them. Skirmish games are too often a bit slow to play. These rules fix that problem, and are still very complete. In the video, Buck is explaining each action as it happens. When you play it for a little while, it goes very fast. You turn over a card to shoot, boom its a hit. The target is in the woods, turn over another card and see if it has the woods terrain symbol on it. If it does, its a stun. If not, its either a wound or incapacitate. It moves very quickly.

Ah, I see.

Thanks for the clarification.

I thought it was just a card game.
