Hi all…I have been meticulously researching Austrian landwehr uniforms here and many other locations, and find there to be significant differences in the descriptions of the uniforms of Bohemian and Moravian landwehr (as opposed to the Frei-Korps or ADK Legion).

Most sources seem to depict them in brown coats, including Eder's plates, and also Enrico Acerbi's excellent essay on the Austrian army on Napoleon Series…however MAA299, written by Dave Hollins, who seems to be the authority on this subject, states that "their uniforms imitated the Lower Austrians, faced light blue" for the Bohemians, while the description of the Moravian uniform is limited to "With a larger peasant population, more Moravians wore black peasant hats".

The brown 1800 ADK Legion uniform with the top hat also seems to get represented bas the 1809 Bohemian uniform, but my sense is that that is in error.

Can anyone help me out ?

Thanks everyone….

I've been trying to figure it out for years. I've come to the conclusion that nobody really knows. If I can find a reasonable looking source for a particular unit I'll use that. Otherwise….take a best guess!

Given that contemporary evidence shows at least some in brown coats (for Bohemia), you are probably pretty safe with grey or brown. Specific units are largely unknown, although it is possible that you might find some examples of uniforms in local museums. For example, a freind of mine who visited Salzburg took some pictures at the museum there, showing the grey coat faced yellow (as expected for the men per the discussions in Hollins' Osprey).

Gents, thanks for the responses, much appreciated.

Gonsalvo, I very much enjoy your blog, BTW.
