For a few weeks I have been mulling over what to do with regards to making a playing surface that is specific to Frostgrave. What I wanted was something that looked good, quick & easy to construct, light & portable, inexpensive, quick to set up and easy to store away. Here is a full tutorial with loads of pictures of how I made this on my blog: link

I notice your miniatures have partially snowed bases, but there seems to be no snow on your scenery. Do you plan to do some winterizing?

I am personally torn on this, I am not a fan of winter terrain and am not doing winter bases… but I may make some winter scatter terrain. Not sure yet.

Nicely done

I won't be putting any snow effect scatter on the playing surface for two reasons, firstly the scatter would rub off and secondly the scatter would affect the placement of the buildings & ruins making the playing surface uneven. I will be making some snow drifts to scatter across the table top as well as putting snow & frost on any buildings I make. Also this does give me the option of using this same playing surface for other things such as dungeon crawling or any city area if I so choose at a later date.

Yes, I think scatter is the way to go for exactly the reasons you have mentioned.

Yes, some snow drifts, perhaps made from foam core board, would look nice.

@Grelber, that is exactly what I was thinking!

Posted over on your other topic as well … where do you get the borderless printed stone effect paper?

Hi Guys,

I had a couple of great games using the terrain today and absolutely loved using it. The first thing that came to mind was that the jointing strips could have been made using a different stone texture to make them look like roadways, so I will be making some of these tomorrow and trying them out.

As for the stone texture, I got it from Wargames Vault for $1.00 USD US or around 67 pence in English money and well worth the price to say the least. Also part of the proceeds goes to a childrens hospital so well worth supporting. Here is a link to it: link

Craft stores like Michaels sell pure white (as well as other interesting colours) sand, which you could put on the table and clean up later as you wished.

Thanks for the reply. Didn't realize you printed it yourself. Was assuming it was a craft store product or something – that is what I have been looking for. However printable graphics give a nice flexibility. I may consider doing that.

Very Clever.
