Could someone explain the firing procedure for on-table mortars in BGK please.

Differs for light or medium or heavy mortars. Light mortars that have direct LOS can use either the Area Fire Effect or the Direct Fire Table as appropriate.
When using the Aimed Fire table this works just the same as any other direct fire. When using the Area Fire Effect table Mortars will use the HE from very light gun or the HE from Light gun up to their maximum range given on P28 versus the appropriate target type.

Medium and heavy mortars must use a spotter. Of course, if they have a LOS to the enemy, they should be packing up and running away!!

Thanks for that. Direct Fire or Area Fire must both apply to medium mortars as well because thay are included in the platoon support options.

No it doesn't apply to mediums.

Light only.

Because of the IT Stasi at work I can't read the link. if I pay for a medium mortar from the platoon support list does this mean it must be directed by a spotter and cannot be used 'over sights'.

Yes it needs a spotter.

The link goes into it a bit more and gives our rational as to why.

Thanks, Piers.That helps a lot.
