Results from the Atlanta Leg of The Good The Bad and The Ugly Tournament. Player Army Alignment Points Dave Crowder Night Watch Good 52 Tim O'Conner Death From Above Good 51 Thomas E. Thomas Light of Sunspear Bad 25 Stephan Crowder Starks of Winterfell Good 24 Sydney Emerson Fun Dead Bad 20 Robert Wright Goblins Galore Bad 8 Played using D3H2 (DBA 3.0 + Hordes of the Things 2.0). 28mm scale. Held at Wasteland Games, Duluth, Georgia. A fun event which included a wide variety of troop types including everything from an Aerial Hero and accompanying Dragon to a mass of lowly Goblin Hordes. As Dragons are a rare sight in conventional HOTT it was great to see this icon of fantasy literature flying about the table and managing a second place finish (D3H2 is a bit kinder to Dragons then conventional HOTT). A Vampire Hero did manage to kill the Dragon and so earned our first Dragon Slayer award. The combination of a Knight riding a Pegasus and a Green Dragon did earn "Death from Above" the best themed Army award. All players got a Barker Marker made from the custom two sided Good Bad and Ugly figure. A big thanks to Wasteland Games for hosting the event and all the players for making this such a great event to run. Already looking forward to next year. Thomas J. Thomas |

As commander of "Death from Above" I would note that Lord Flapalot, mounted on his trusty griffon, quickly avenged the death of his pet dragon, winning the battle in just a few moves! :-) This despite the fact that Fang failed to show up in my first battle. His absence cost me the tourney since I lost no elements in that one. Arrgh! Lord Flapalot must have punished Fang severely since he showed up on turn 1 for the second and third battles! :-) Besides fang the only other casualty was a solid bow stand in the third battle. Besides Lord Flapalot and Fang the rest of the army was solid bow only. Their arrows must have had griffon feathers given their one casualty over three battles! |

One of the great things about HOTT is the ability to create your own fantasy world. It helps though to have internal logic. In Tim's case he created a medieval world but with flying. So he had a Bretoninan Knight riding a Pegasus and a Green Dragon. As one might expect foot solidiers in this world all carried longbows to fight flying things. These were played by English Hundred Year War yeoman archers. The look was very European medieval but with a splash of internally consistent fantasy. No wonder it won best theme army. Figures were Games Workshop Bretonian for the knight on Peg, a HeroScape pre-painted Dragon and Perry Brothers HYW English plastic archers from the boxed set. TomT |
