So it finally happened… I ran my first ever Hammer's Slammers: The Crucible, at Millennium.. The table looked great and the game was fun.. The basic idea was that in the planet of Neo-Poltava, a colony of the recently formed New Ukraine, the local businessmen have decided that the recent escalation of trade restrictions is inconvenient. The conflict has evolved to a civil war. The central government has dispatched forces of the New Ukrainian Army to support local loyal troops but the opposition has hired the still mercenary branch of the Hammer's Slammers. Hence you will see some similar equipment among the local "trained" combatants, supported by Elite or Veteran detachments of the Slamemers or the New Ukrainian Army.
The game presented some very unusual results. The Slammers failed almost every penetration roll they made getting lots of 1 and 2s. At the same time little by little, penetration results on the slammers first stripped them off their defenses allowing them to be easy prey for infantry ATGW. During the battle there was no artillery due to both sides trying to level the city due to political consequences, so in the end as the Salmmers lost impetus they were force to retreat and loyal forces and New Ukrainian Army maintained control of the city, in particular the main townhall building at the center of the town. It was fun for me to run the game and hopefully I'll be able to do this at a future convention again.. cheers Francisco |

Looks great Francisco: I really like the missiles with the smoke trail to the rear, too: excellent. If I can have more pics and info I'll stick something on the Slammers site! Rolling Hot!! (as Legion 4 would say!!) John T |

Those missiles are very cool. Great work, and really has me thinking of how to do something similar down under. |

Looks great. Where did you get the street pieces? |

John, I'll upload more pics and send you a more detailed report… The streets are from the tomica city, the sidwalks as well ( they show up as "pavement" ), and I got them from ebay.. the sidewalks of course were then painted.. they cam in simple grey plastic… The building I just bought it from FRP games, as some of the other little 4Ground city accessories, like the street signs announcing coming attractions :)

I got to see the table as Fancisco was setting it up (but I sadly wasn't able to play) and it looked even better in person. I may have slobbered a little in envy. |
