The van's engine started knocking even louder, the gauge long in the red. The noise was clear even over the hiss of the leaking radiator. I could feel the looks of fear on my back from everyone crowded into the van behind me.

"I hope this thing doesn't die on us." Stark said grimly.

We left most of the fleeing traffic when we turned off of Ole Brownsville and onto Stage Road. I smiled as I saw Jakes repair shop ahead. Hopefully we could either get the van fixed or steal a replacement there. I pulled off just in front of the locked gate when the van died. An explosion of voices occurred behind me as everyone tried to talk at once.

"Quiet!" I shouted, "Stark, help me open the gate. Then we'll push the van in and see what we can do. Everyone else stay put until we're safe inside the fence.

Most accepted the command but Gwen glared at me, her eyes red from crying.

The Scenario's goals
1-Don't lose anyone
2-get the van repaired or find a replacement vehicle

The Board-
Capt Jake's Repairshop is inside a locked chain link fence.
Across the street are trees that screen a subdivision.
Behind the shop is another subdivision.

I quickly work a deal with the sole remaining mechanic, repairs so that he and the girl can come with us to safety

the aftermath

We finally got them to stop shooting and Stark and I were able to mop up the last remaining few with out Katanas, but what a mess. We were covered in gore, but laughing to be alive. We quickly got the van into the cover of the shop before we attacked any more undead attention. It looked like a clown car when everyone piled out of the van, but everyone was alive. Earl, the mechanic told us he'd get to the van as soon as he finished up on the TNNG Humvee which wouldn't take long. The Guardsmen told us they were headed to the refugee center setting up at the old Navy base if anyone was interested in joining them. Nobody did, and we pretty much collapsed for awhile after getting cleaned up a bit. Stark and I helped clear a path through the bodys when the TNNG were ready to leave. We watched them leave nervously, but only a few zeds had reappeared and they took no interest in the quiet fenced in shop. Earl wasn't the owner, but was the head mechanic and said that he would have the radiator patched and us up and running in no time as the radiator was just banged up, nothing serious. While he worked, we tried to rest knowing that soon we would have to leave the tenuous shelter of the fence and keep moving to the farm.

WOW, another blast of a game. When the van didn't restart and the 1st PEF turned out to be a mini hoard I though our goose was well cooked. But the two remaining PEFs really saved us. Had the TNNG not been there, Im sure we would have lost someone or a lot of someones. It was also fun to have a fight with my civvies behind relative safety and some heavy guns to bear. But it was a bummer that I didn't get to explore an abandoned building ie the shop because when PEF 2 turned up, I thought it made sense for them to be a shop employee and relative. All in all, a fun game that moved the campaign along. I'll try not to be so long in between games this time.

Stay tuned for the next exciting game!

Reports of Thor's early demise were greatly exaggerated

Gees I don't know where those rumors came from!? evil grin

Amalric,

Another excellent AAR! Thanks for taking the time to share these, they are truly enjoyed!

What brand of toy are the white and red trucks? They look more in the 1:50 to 1:55 scale rather than the typical 1:43. I prefer this scale, but vehicles can be hard to find.

Thanks!

Amalric12 Nov 2015 5:32 p.m. PST

Elwood,

I too use 1/48-1/50ish vehicles.

These are from Dollar Store, new ray I believe.
I bought many and repainted a bunch.

Ford truck, originally Red

picture

picture

Dodge Charger, originally blue. They make perfect police cars.

These trucks are all by Maisto
look for them in Walmart

I eyeball cars and if they're 1.5" or so wide, then they'll most likely be 1/50ish.

War Monkey13 Nov 2015 9:23 p.m. PST

Nice looking vehicles, wish I could find more vehicles like those in the 15's range.

Loved the whole thing.. but I was amazed at the No. of vehicles you've got that "fit" the 1/56 – 28mm (more or less) scale characters.

DOLLAR STORE!? You only paid a 'buck-a-truck' (sorry couldnt resist that)!?
I think most gamers 'settle' for 1/48 models, IIRC generally the more common 'larger' scale.

Thanks for the 1 1/2in. 'wide' rule of thumb for figuring the vehicles' scale.
WHERE.. did you get the 'lights', etc to 'make' the Police cars?
