War Stories : Red Storm is a relatively new WWII tactical boardgame. The designers have made it with potential miniatures play a component. Take a look at my progress so far… link Has anybody else got examples of using painted miniatures in their boardgames? |

Has anybody else got examples of using painted miniatures in their boardgames? A long time ago, and I'm desperately trying to remember the name of the publication…man, I can see it in my mind, B/W, 5.5x8 inches, maybe 16 pages or 32 pages?, lots of photography….Argh. I believe it was reprinted in MWAN? I think it only ran four issues…Man, the memory's going….help me out, folks. Anyway, it was around 1972 or so, and it used GHQ microarmor with "3D" Panzerblitz boards…basically, each level of terrain (gullies, clear, hill 1, hill 2, etc) had its own foamboard (?) level. You needed to cut up everything, but the idea was to use the minis in place of the counters. Played as Panzerblitz, but with cooler graphics. More recently, Soldiers (WWII tactical 1 mini = 1 man) is a hybrid mini-boardgame with cards holding the mini's stats played on mapboard. |

Russ Lockwood – The magazine you were trying to remember is The Wargamers Digest. Specifically Volume 2, Issue 10 (August 1975). There was a "Zone of Action" article about making 3D Panzerblitz boards and using microarmor on them to play the game. |
