If Historicon is the biggest/best in North America, what's the equivalent for the railroad folks? |

nmra2017orlando.org NMRA conventions and their corresponding national train show. In 2017 it's coming to Orlando. I am so stoked, having returned to my original hobby within the past couple years. BTW I used to be a webmaster for the NMRA back in the day. |

The NMRA conventions are great. The national moves to a different city every year. There are smaller regional NMRA cons as well. However; there are two annual conventions that are huge and are larger than the NMRA annuals. This coming weekend in or near Milwaukee, and then the last weekend in January in West Springfield, MA. Both draw over 20,000 attendees, dealers large and small, and many operating layouts |

The best one in your region is likely the Great Scale Model con at Timonium, MD in February. It draws about 9k and includes large club displays. |

HMGS should decide to try out the facilities at Timonium. LOL! I was there for that one. |

Gotta be the Amherst Model train show up in Springfield Ma. Best show I'v ever been to. I live in MD and its well worth the drive. Large number of dealers and other sellers. Always fun to stop by the manufacturers and see what they have planned for future projects. |

I'm lucky and I live close. there is a lot of stuff there that a miniatures guys could like, but the model railroad dioramas are phenomenal. |

Timonium is big, but nothing on earth compares to the TCA, Train Collectors Association, meet at York, Pa. 12,000 to 15,000 show up for 8 halls of dealers and layouts. easterntca.com/#

I think like game conventions it depends on what you are looking for. My favorite is the Narrow Gauge convention which moves to different parts of the country every year (like Origins used to do). It was in Houston this past September and will be in Maine next year. |

Model railroading in the US has become rather fractured. Among the O gauge and to a lesser extent the S scale crowds THE EVENT was held at York PA twice a year. Since York started out as a way for "toy" train enthusiasts to get together to buy and sell, it didn't become popular with the "scale" crown who typically went for HO or N scale. You also have your narrow gauge fans and your garden railroad fans. |

April and October according to the web site. It used to be a closed show though. Not sure if that is still true. |

Still closed. You need to pay $50 USD to join the group over top the door fee. However, you can go once under a guest registration without paying the group fee. |
