In the context of anticipated Team Yankee follow ups – although I'm not recommending Berlin as a scenario myself! link

Not sure the WASPS top is the best camo…….. Also think the hair may be a problem once the bone dome goes on!!! |

One of the chaps here was RHF in Berlin, funny enough recounting a couple of tales. One point they did have Wombat and Milan in the Atk Pl (the platoon had a CSM who was a kn*b which is what the tale was about!) Tally Ho! |

Nice one. They definitely had the odd ferret and I've seen photos to prove it, though I'm not sure about the camo on the Ferret photo though – it seems to be the wrong pattern and wrong colours. The Infantry Battalions were Type A, though with a heavily-modified organisation. Main transport was softskinned, though they weren't fully motorised. There was also some suggestion of reinforcing them with a Type B Bn during the build-up to war. There were two ordinary FV-432 and four FV-432/30 with each of the three infantry battalions. The four FV-432/30s were grouped in their own platoon in Support Coy, as a sort of dual-purpose APC/Fire Support platoon. The other two FV-432s were (I think) Bn Tac HQ vehicles, though I'm not sure about that. There was also the odd FV-434 ARV. Yes, there was a mixed AT Pl org of MILAN and Wombat. Recce Pl had Fox – there were no CVR(T) in Berlin. In the late 80s, the Recce Pl Foxes seem to have reverted to the usual banded green/black camo (identical pattern for each vehicle). |

I remember playing NATO Commander on my Atari back in the 80s and the Berlin Brigade where nothing more than a slight inconvenient speed bump for the red horde in that game :( |

Thanks for all the additional information and/or confirmation! The WASP top is actually quite thoughtful on HRH's part – The TIGER's colours were black and yellow… |

There were also some command variant FV-432s in the late 80s, though I think they might have replaced one or both of the 'ordinary' FV-432s in each Bn. |

Aha, here's a Berlin Ferret in the correct pattern:

Outside of the Berlin Brigade, what sort of camo was being used? |

Green and black ( MAT paint ). When you first get a NEW vehicle in BAOR , not a hand me down from the UK, it would be in a gloss bronze green. We would give them a rub down and then re paint them mat green and black. There may have been a standard patten some where telling you how all the vehicles are to be painted but we just did our own thing. It works out to about 66% green and 33% black. I don't know how to get a photo in here but just Google " land rover army" look at images and you will see hundreds of them. |
