For games held for a public audience or for participation do you bring:

1) your very best stuff – to make the spectacle as impactful as possible
2) whatever you have on hand
3) your worst stuff knowing John Q. Public won't take the same care you do?

Always best, back when I ran games, especially for the
children

My "stuff" is pretty much all of a similar quality, so
1, 2 AND 3!!

I bring my set up for the game I am running. I like to think it is a good quality game. I only have one set of figures.

As JT wrote: why would you "go public" with second rate stuff?

JSchutt07 Nov 2015 12:05 p.m. PST

I may be wrong but from my experience….players look to you for queues on how to handle your figures (…like telling them on what you expect) and seem to be more careful in proportion to how nice your figures are painted.

If set up / take down time is limited, I will simplify the terrain a tad. Leave the lichen and twigs at home, so it's a "cleaner" set up.

Otherwise my goal is always to bring the "Wow" factor.

As for dealing with damage, it's inevitable and rarely fatal. So far other than one stolen chariot, I've had nothing get damaged (beyond a figure popping off a base kind of thing).

I use my worst figures on the most terrible terrain I can find. I then smear myself in dog sh*t to really make the game an unpleasant experience.

Is this serious?

I don't have various levels of stuff, so I take what I've got.

The best I can – always. Treat the public with respect (always) … and they will respect you/us/wargaming thumbs up!

Which us what it's all about wink

This really is a non-question. All my stuff is of the same quality – and hand painted by myself. I regularly put on games for others.

I have seen games that have several thousand dollars worth of King and Country figures as the playing pieces.

I figure if someone can risk 3 or 4 thousand USD worth of figures (if not more) I can put my best out there.

I just ask people to be careful if I have any fragile figures.

Not everybody has that kind of money to spend on the hobby.
