This is the same game as the cheaper edition currently in big box stores, but includes higher quality components and actual plastic miniatures for the Death Star II, the Millennium Falcon and the Executor SSD. I understand that it's an Amazon exclusive and a limited edition, so get 'em before the scalpers do. link I ordered my copy this morning! |

Interesting, and (from the pictures and description) not really what I was expecting it to be, which was a more typically Risk game of conquer the galaxy. I wonder how Risk-y (risque?) the game play actually is? Doug |

Game discussion here: TMP link But essentially, it's a two-player (or two-team) asymmetrical conflict game loosely based on the WotC/AH/Hasbro The Queen's Gambit game from the '90s. "Risk" thus is more a branding choice than a core mechanic (though I gather the fighter combat pretty much uses the standard Risk opposed-die roll, tie to the defender system). Can't wait to play mine, though I've had to agree that it's a Christmas present from my lovely bride, so my actual perusal of it is over a month away! |

It is a fun game and can be played in an hour. That being said the Black Edition is not much of an upgrade from the cheaper version. You can get models of the Executor and the Millenium Falcon for a grand total of $10.00 USD at the moment that look better and if you own the original trilogy risk set you already have the stormtrooper models. My kids happened to have micromachine minis for stormtroopers, At-Sts, Vader, Luke and a rebel commando and that with micromachine Executor and Falcon really jazzed it up. The ultimate upgrades of course are to play the game with the music from the Battle of Endor playing on auto repeat and don't forget to buy one of those Star Wars laser blasts sound effects buttons that Hallmark sells that someone pushes when dice are rolled.:) |
