Using Model Maker software, I made a "skin" for making buildings from popular building bricks Blocks. How many of you have done something similar and "borrowed" the bricks from your kids? Show of hands….I thought so! So here are the results of some of my efforts.
A typical Church found all over western Europe.
Get the idea? Simple but satisfying when done! A bit more detail here if interested: link |

Nice idea, but why is the church smaller than the barn behind it? |

Given the cost of Legos, wouldn't it be cheaper just to have them custom made by Tom Meier and painted by Victoria Lamb? |

The building behind it is an N scale piece for scale purposes. It was NOT made with bricks. It's a Faller (TM) farmstead kit. (I had just shot the photos two posts down of some N scale , 1/144th items. Been wanting to do some shots of this technique for sometime and home sick with a cold, took advantage of the day. Sorry for any confusion that might have made. v/r Tom |

Nice idea, but why is the church smaller than the barn behind it? Judging by the size of the doors, I'd guess a different scale? John T |

Lego (TM) offers a spre part service. You can order the brick you are looking for and it's much cheaper than having to buy the sets just to get the brick. I don't think 20 cents or so a brick is too much. They also make a set for adding more roof bricks to your set. I think I paid less than $20.00 USD for one and have enough to do a LOT of buildings using this method. A similar church from GHQ (TM) (VERY nice, BTW) just cost me $20.00 USD plus shipping! Tom |

Given the cost of Legos "Proper Use of the LEGO Trademark on a Web Site If the LEGO trademark is used at all, it should always be used as an adjective, not as a noun. For example, say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGO BRICKS". Never say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGOs".Also, the trademark should appear in the same typeface as the surrounding text and should not be isolated or set apart from the surrounding text. In other words, the trademarks should not be emphasized or highlighted. Finally, the LEGO trademark should always appear with a ® symbol each time it is used." link |

Who has to borrow from their kids? And also checkout BrickLink.com. It's basically eBay for Lego products. |

Well excuuuuuuse me, Major B! I went back and editied all but the title (not possible). I am sure the LEGO (TM) folks would not be unhappy about someone promoting yet another use for their products. If you read the link, they are specifically talking about someone using their own products as representing them as their own. I am not selling anything but an idea on how their products can also be used. I am sure Toyota (TM) does not like seeing their products being used as technicals. I also don't see them complaining when taking the deposits for their sales to the bank! Way to go MB. Take an idea shared with the readership of TMP and hijack it by twisting it around to where a positive thing is now a negative. |

I am about halfway into making a 1/300 scale Macross City for Robotech. Got the main idea from this TMP post TMP link |

Nicely done, stroezie! have any shots of your buildings to share haywire? Same idea, take basic shapes and create buildings. I have used wood shapes and papered (or more specific- 80 pound Bristol Board) to provide the details as well and the wood (or popular plastic bricks) for rigidity. />) |

Well excuuuuuuse me, Major B! I went back and edited all but the title (not possible). The reference was to the use of the plural noun by "punkrabbit returns" not your good self who has quite rightly used the term "Lego blocks". If you read the link, they are specifically talking about someone using their own products as representing them as their own. I am not selling anything but an idea on how their products can also be used. No, you're not selling anything, but the notice on the Lego web site refers specifically to the "Proper Use of the LEGO Trademark on a Web Site" – any web site, including TMP. I am sure Toyota (TM) does not like seeing their products being used as technicals. I also don't see them complaining when taking the deposits for their sales to the bank! No they probably don't but I imagine they do not have a disclaimer on their web site telling poeple not to. |

it should always be used as an adjective, not as a noun. For example, say "MODELS BUILT OF LEGO BRICKS" It seems to be a weird transatlantic thing. I had never, ever – from using them as a kid fifty years ago – heard some one refer to Lego in the plural until I heard someone from the US say it. In blighty, to my knowledge it has always been simply 'Lego', as in: "I made it from Lego.""I got out my box of Lego." "That part is made from a Lego brick or several Lego bricks" etc John T |
