I've had Maps of the Wilderness on pre order since April and Amazon still haven't a clue when it will show up. Last I heard it was supposed to go to the printers in early May. Who's doing the the job, Gutenburg and Sons? |

That's insane! Why the hell having they been making out its ready to go? Amazon's site is automated. When a publication is assigned an ISBN number then it goes on pre-ordre. |

Yes I appreciate that but it doesn't explain why they (SB) supposedly told a TMP member it was being printed in May. It was them I was referring to, not Amazon, in the above section. Not that I'm doubting the member, who obviously could have been misinformed by SB. It also doesn't explain why they released the ISBN number and details to Amazon what will be ten months in advance! Anyway I have solved the Amazon issue by cancelling the order. I'll just pick the book up as and when. |

It also doesn't explain why they released the ISBN number and details to Amazon what will be ten months in advance! Apparently that is not uncommon in the publishing industry. And they didn't "release" the information to Amazon, Amazon get it automatically from the ISBN database. |

Now that's interesting. So that means that Amazon are taking a punt on everything they put out for sale being available before … whenever? I guess the only puzzle in this then is why of all the books I've got via Amazon this has never happened before? However, surely SB have control over when they seek an ISBN number, or release some form of alert to the database that the book has reached a certain point in its development. |

I just received my copy of Beevor's new book on the Ardennes yesterday, and I pre-ordered that back in April or May. That was from Viking Press. Not as long a wait as the title you were looking forward to, but still several months. Not sure about the whole Amazon pre-order timing and ISBNs process, but I really like the people at Savas Beatie, and their books. |

I know self-publishing, as soon as I registered my ISBN, Amazon and BN.com took the information and created listing for them without any input from me. So, I'm not going to register any future ISBNs until I have the book laid out, a cover, and a realistic future release date. Probably about 2 months out. |

I should point out that I do enjoy the SB books and don't really have a beef with them. I'm just disappointed in this particular process, all the more so for not understanding it! |

Just to continue my obsession – now available to buy as Kindle but not in print at Amazon on either side of the Atlantic! |
