Recently picked up on DVD the renamed 'Field of Lost Shoes' …Lost Souls in the UK! Have to say wasn't as bad as I had feared, though there might have been marginally less romance which felt shoe-horned (pardon the pun) in to the script and a lot more of the actual battle but otherwise not too bad at all! |

Well I shall have to add it to my NetFlix Que, Rah Virginia Mill and all that. |

It was respectful of the VMI without going overboard, nice snapshot of Cadet life. |

I will look out for it. On that note, is there a version of gods and generals available with the scenes of Jackson with his wife or helper already deleted? Save me skipping though it every time! |

I saw it a few weeks ago on Netflix. It was a decent enough movie. Definitely not a snooze fest. |

I found it a preachy bore. Even worse is that the battle scenes were terribly muddy (not mud on the ground, muddy as in bad filming). > is there a version of gods and generals available with the scenes of Jackson with his wife or helper already deleted?
Nope, but the extended version has MORE of the helper guy cooking for the Rebs in it. |

Well I shall have to add it to my NetFlix Que, Disc not streaming? I may have to make a note. Though I'll also make a note of D-8789's opinion. Thanks, all. Save me skipping though it every time! Not that I can with my PS3, but aren't there BD players that allow you to bookmark and skip-to-next quickly enough to be almost as good as? If there isn't, THERE SHOULD BE! Doug |

Netflix had it available for streaming, not sure if they do any longer. In order to bookmark you have to watch through (or Fast Forward) at least once to find the spot to mark! On the other hand skipping ahead a chapter should work fine. |

You can watch it here for free if you're willing to put up with a few adds: link |

I've always wondered if it was meant to be called Field of Lost Soles in the UK, or is that just a load of cobblers? |

Makes "Gods and Generals" look like the work of Sergei Eisenstein. |

Saw the film awhile ago and thought it was not very good. I was disappointed. Poorly acted, poorly filmed, the battle scenes were awful, and the story was not very good. It was a second rate and one I would only recommend watching if you are doing something else at the same time. |

This load of old boots has now arrived on Netflix in the UK – God Awful Movie! I'd rather be tied to a chair and forced to watch Gods & Generals 24/7 than watch it again! |

I am always amazed at how some posters continually expand their bombastic criticism for effect. It is a film, entertainment for the uneducated masses, by the clueless production team. If you want more, read a book. |

I didn't see any bombastic criticism. The movie sucked. It wasn't a bad movie because the shoes weren't right, the tunics had the incorrect number of stitches, and the saddles were wrong for the time period, it was a bad movie for the reasons mentioned by jpipes. If you liked the movie, more power to you, but defending a bad movie by telling people to read a book if they want something better seems a little odd. Why is wanting a good movie unreasonable? |

I'd be interesting in seeing it (the link given here doesn't work)out of morbid curiosity for no other reason than the fact that I was an extra in the battle scenes. Quite the worst production I've ever been involved in. |
