Has any one played LR with larger single retinues (i.e. not multi-player games each with a retinue) – 36+ points each side? Like the idea of the rules but want some thing just a little larger than the standard size 24 point retinues. Cheers Nick |

Sure why not? The game will take a little longer and you'll probably need a slightly bigger playing area, but those are easily dealt with. |

Have used it for participation games with the lance & Longbow society. WE have played with three retinues per side. |

I play 4 player with 20 pts each so 40 pts per side regularly on a 6x4 no problems. |

I'm assuming you may want to split each side into two retinues, or say that only the second failed activation roll causes a turnover, otherwise I imagine it will be trickier to get the full retinues moving. |

We dropped the failed activation roll – ie all units got a chance to activate its the only way you can play through such a game in a short period of time |

When I do I basically apply the Hail Caesar command concept, i.e.; I separate the total army into Divisions "battles?" and each one would count as a separate retinue. the individual retinue composition rules are not applied to each division, just the army as a whole (modified by the multiples of 24 rounded up) so if you wanted to have your cavalry in a cavalry division you can. each division follows the normal activation rules. select a division and follow the normal process. it is up to the player if you want to trade off by division or wait until the whole army has gone before the other player takes his turn. I suspect when dragon rampant comes out we will have a little more flexibility. just my take on it. |

I'm planning to use it for WotR with up to a dozen units per side. Don't see why it wouldn't work. |

Great – thanks for you're thoughts guys. I will give it a bash. I think I will adopt the idea of ignoring the first orders failure. Cheers Nick |

I've played a couple of games in the 31-34 point range using the standard rules. It holds up in my opinion. It's fun deciding if you want a more elite force (2 expert archer units?) or horde (I love charging across the table with multiple fierce units right into those elite archer units my buddy always takes). |
