SWMBO runs our Facebook site, and she tripped over a post claiming the lightsaber is the best sound effect ever. It was quickly countered with the blue box. I do love the blue box sound.

I, however, assert the greatest sound effect ever is the 1962 Godzilla roar.

So, what say you all?

The laser sound from War of the worlds – it gets reused in so many films (including Star Wars!) and is universally acknowledged to be just what a laser rifle sounds like when it is fired!

Oh and btw, are we sure that is Godzilla is screaming? He has nuclear breath so maybe he is just breaking wind. grin

Musket volley sound effect from The alamo(2004)

The ICONIC, "Pee'Ow" pistol shot that has been a mainstay to the Bond movies since time began.

I think it was made in the 1950's in an Alabama rock quarrie.

Whodda thunk it, Alabama…the cultural center of the world. wink

The Martian heat ray and skeleton ray from War Of The Worlds(1953),would likely rank in the top 10.

A squirrel satisfying an elephant …or vice versa, …or an equivilant? It happens.

I would be more concerned with Gamera. Once he starts spinning, there's no telling which end the sparks are shooting out of…

Well you do have a point with Gamera. I wonder if he gets motion sickness.

That Door opening sound from Doom has been used in a ton of places.
