Bill, I know you are busy, hunting down Cheerleaders and political posters, etc., like me. And so many other Recalcitrants, heretics, evil doers, anarchists, etc. … Are you BATMAN ?

However, I have a new HP Lap Top with Windows 10. But this annoying " Time Lock error message", etc., that occurs daily. Resulting in me, and I'm sure its not only me, taking 5-10 minutes to try and post on a thread ! Hey look … Deleted by Moderator huh?

The old saying is "If it's ain't broke don't fix it !" Well … It is Broken … So fix it !!!!!!!

MajorB01 Nov 2015 7:55 a.m. PST

Look, the "Timeout Lockfile" error message is simply what is known as a "race condition" and is usually caused by multiple users attempting to access the same thread at the same time. A symptom of high traffic to the site if you will.

The way to "get rid" of it is in fact to REDUCE traffic to the site!! In other words, TMP is a victim of its own popularity.

Repeatedly yelling at Bill to "fix it" won't help. The fix will come with TMP4 and not before. I'm afraid.

Also, try using Internet Explorer and not the "Edge" app to access TMP. I've noticed some websites don't work just right with Edge.

I use Firefox (you couldn't pay me to use IE) and get the message. The problem is when you get it STARTING a new topic! I've lost postings because of that and had to re-enter them.

Well he yells at me … or puts me in the DH … to be more accurate … huh?

I am using Edge, my Windows 10 just start working correctly. For months, I've had to call my Tech Support Gurus, not from MSN. MSN said I'd have over an hour wait or call me back in 24-48hrs … !?!?!? huh? Every other day or so I got an error message and could only go on line using IE. Or call my Techies. That I pay yearly for their ability to "fix" even Windows 10 among other things. If only for a day or two …

Good thing Windows 10 was free … I guess it is true … "What do you expect for nothing ?"

Initial OS releases from MicroSoft are, basically, BETAware (Why do you think it's free?). They use their user base as testers. Always wait for the x.1 or later releases.

Gee, never had a problem with accessing TMP using my antiquated XP computer. ;-)
Learned long time ago not to change OS until forced to….IMHO-windows 10… BLAH!!!!!!!

tberry740301 Nov 2015 10:06 a.m. PST

Switched to 8 only because my hard drive died.

And I just hit the "timeout lockfile" error at least six times trying to access four different topics.

I used to get the "timeout lockfile" error when I was using XP.

Switched to 8 only because my hard drive died.

I repeat, the "timeout lockfile" error has NOTHING to do with what OS or browser you are using. It's a problem with the backend database on TMP.

vicmagpa101 Nov 2015 10:27 a.m. PST

never had that problem. win 7.1. hate the 8.

KnightTemplarr01 Nov 2015 10:37 a.m. PST

I've been using Windows 10 pro since it came out in July. I haven't gotten "timeout lockfile" error on any site.

From what I have seen with Windows 10 is it is a RAM hog and likes to change your graphics handling.

Oh I understand that. I was merely remarking on hitting the error 6+ times in a row while trying to access 4 different topics.

It's just started happening for me today. Just about the time when most of America is up and about …

Mako1101 Nov 2015 11:09 a.m. PST

It happens with XP and Windows 7 as well, sadly.

RavenscraftCybernetics01 Nov 2015 11:17 a.m. PST

it seems to occur less when Legion 4 is in the hoosegaw.

Martin Rapier01 Nov 2015 12:28 p.m. PST

I access TMP on Chrome, Firefox, Silk and IE. It happens on all of them as it is a back end problem, not a browser issue.

Weasel01 Nov 2015 1:40 p.m. PST

If it's any consolation, I get the issue on Linux as well.

D A THB01 Nov 2015 4:31 p.m. PST

I get it on my iMac depending on time of day.

Fried Flintstone01 Nov 2015 5:56 p.m. PST

It's definitely a server side issue – it won't matter what browser or PC you use

CeruLucifus01 Nov 2015 8:54 p.m. PST

When I get the lock I use the Back button on my browser and highlight /copy my post then Back again to topic page, hit Refresh, then click into same topic again. If my post is not there, I add again and paste.
