I don't know when it happened, but the new range of Early French in bicorn is now on CGM's website.

This morning I noticed a new category for Early French under CGM 15mm Napoleonic.

I've been checking the CGM website just about every day right after this TMP topic appeared on Oct. 6.

TMP link

The most recent CGM News item from Oct. 10 reported the Peninsular British catalogue was up, and the upcoming range of French from 1791-1807 "will be available soon."

Well, here they are it seems. Looks good!

I probably will buy two 36-figure line battalions plus 8 skirmishers to try them out.

P.S. Anyone have experience ordering from CGM? Any issues about ordering from Spain that a U.S. buyer should be aware of? Thanks.

Very nice! Any info on whether they will do other early period armies, like the Austrians, Prussians, or Russians?

Hi
I have purchased from cgm in the past and im buying again in early december. I have had no problems with my dealings. Dermot is a real nice guy to deal wifh and i wouldnt hesitate to recommend buying from him. If you want different figure configuration than advertised just email him. Delivery period to reach me here in nz is about 7- 10 days. Figures are really good. As to early prussians etc give dermot an email.
kind regards
Stephen

Thank you, Stephen. Everything I've read on TMP about CGM and Dermot is extremely positive, I just didn't know about Spain's postal services. I have ordered two line battalions. Looking forward to seeing them "in the flesh."

I've ordered from Campaign in the past and my figures came to NYC with no problems.

I'm in the UK and found Dermot to be most helpful and his service to be perfect.

His figures are under appreciated and deserve to be seen on more tables.

They look lovely, so there is no distributed in the UK you have to order direct?

Oh Bugger01 Nov 2015 3:53 a.m. PST

I think QRF carry them but only battalion packs of 12 or 16.

Nice figures good guy.

Paul, CGM are a great company and very helpful. I've had no problems with dealing with them but I would recommend using the more expensive "registered" post as its quicker. I ordered a batch of horses to mount Sho's cavalry earlier in the year and when it hadn't arrived Dermot sent a replacement that I paid the extra postage on, and both packs ended up arriving on the same day.

I've ordered a set of these and hopefully getting them will kick me back into painting again (and also doing some more flags for these as well).

paulalba01 Nov 2015 5:18 p.m. PST

Thanks guys! Looks like QRF only have the late war French at the moment so I'll try ordering direct.

Vexilla? Miniature are/were the uk stockist, however not so sure now. At the end of the day my personal pereference is to deal with the manufacturer directly. The reasons been you not paying extra cost per figure ( suppliers profit) in my case no vat tax and if you require a different mix of figures you can. Ie in the case of cavalry swap the flag carrier for an extra trooper etc
Kind regards
Stephen

I have done multiple orders recently and have had no issues going to California. Highly recommend there stuff!

Everyone: Thanks for the posts about your experiences with CGM. Order placed, and I already received an email that the package is on its way.

Got my order this morning. Great figures!! And I got some of the Austrians as well – I am now wondering why I haven't got those before. They are lovely figures as well. Well done to CGM!!

The Tyn Man11 Nov 2015 6:08 a.m. PST

Size wise, how do these figs compare the others such as "old" Old Glory or Battle Honors?

Cheers, Dean

Eclipsing Binaries11 Nov 2015 1:46 p.m. PST

I will try and do a comparison on my blog tomorrow, but they fit well with AB for size. I don't Battle Honours or early French Old Glory.

Eclipsing Binaries12 Nov 2015 3:28 a.m. PST

As promised, a review and comparison on my blog…

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks very much, that answers my question… they are a little bigger than I hoped.

Cheers, Dean

I'm a bit tardy with an update…

I placed my order for 2 battalions of French Line Infantry in Bicorne on Sat. Oct. 31, and received an email from Dermot almost immediately. I mistakenly paid VAT, and he offered a refund or extra figures to compensate. I chose extra mounted figures for command and staff officers. Dermot mailed the package on Mon. Nov. 2, and exactly one week later to the day, it was delivered. Yes, from Spain to Southwest Misery in one week! Simply Wow!

Excellent service! And Dermot is a real friendly and enthusiastic person.

I'm very pleased with the figures. IMHO, these CGM figures are size-compatible with AB early French in bicorne. Once they are painted and based, I think it will be difficult for me to tell them apart when playing ("3-foot rule").

A couple of things I really like:

1) The NCO (sergeant) in the command pack has his rifle on the right shoulder. I wish I could get a bunch of these! I would place this figure right alongside AB figures in the same unit.

2) The 8-pack of skirmishers include four firing and four loading. This is perfect for my basing needs which will have one firing figure and one loading figure on each skirmisher stand. They clearly look like "skirmishing" pose rather than "advancing" pose.

So, I hope to have a brigade of AB figures and another brigade of CGM figures. When they are available again, I would like to add a brigade from Battlemodels (aka Capitan Games, aka Warmodeling, aka Fantassin). Also, I'm thinking about Blue Moon, but probably will wait until their mounted officers are available.

Eclipsing Binaries14 Nov 2015 9:57 a.m. PST

Ooh Rah, blue moon are nice, but the only problem with them in regards to mixing with other manufacturers is the short bayonet. I know they probably did this so they are stronger and less liable to break, as they also did with the flagpoles, but they look greatly different when side by side with other figures. Its strange how such a small detail makes a big visual difference.

And if you are looking for flags for Demi-brigades I can supply those.

flipper18 Nov 2015 12:43 p.m. PST

Hi

These figures look really nice – unfortunately I did not find this to be the case when I purchased some of their late period French fusiliers a few years ago – I found the sculpting/placing of the shako was such that the face was obscured and lacked detail.
But all the figures in the link are certainly not showing that problem.
