Well yes, sir. I know of no British combat infantryman who saw service, who would disagree with you. All that shooting and carrying on was merely an interval in the serious business of getting drunk and getting laid.

The emphasis on shooting a non-automatic rifle (the SLE in my day) was rapidity, not accuracy of fire. If there's a whole bunch of 'em in front of you, you'll probably hit someone, right? And the faster you shoot, the more you'll hit.
