Hi All I am busy with several projects involving WW2 Italian forces and am well covered for basic infantry and vehicles both in plastic 1/72. When it comes heavy weapons and artillery I am looking at the Mirliton figures as they have colonial and continental support weapon packs listed. But are they 1/76 (20mm) or 1/72. What I want some advice on is if these Mirliton figures will fit in well with my existing 1/72 scale plastics. |

Hello Jacques i can give you what i consider reliable advice on the matter as, being Mirliton during the eighties , the only metal miniature producer for this scale in my country..i frequently followed, met in person and bought quite a few minis from him..both in 25/28mm and 1:72.. first: WW2 Italians are quite large minis also if slender..i woould label them 1:72…but, as i use them for many of my Italian Army units, they are compatible with plastics and many other manufactures…for example their Alpini Mountain troops where mixed with good effect with my ESCI Alpini in plastic…their support weapons are very nice and very realistcally designed as regards to proprtions…in some cases..like the Guzzi MotoMachineGun, 47mm AT Gun and Brixia light mortars they seem to be realised with a modelling approach in mind..not wargame..as the barrels are not those chunky pieces of metal frequently present in wargame models…the artillery crews are very useful together with vehicle passengers..they even sell some few separate heads sprues which could be used, as i did, to convert my ubiquitos Italian from ESCI into Colonial troops…i used them also with Raventhorpe metal minis… As regards historical accuracy they very good..just be careful with a couple of subjects that did'nt convince me…a Bersaglieri LM gunner waering a gasmask and, above all, a couple of Eritrean Askaris with backpack….the rest are very nice fee free to ask me everything those minis and, eventually, other Italian Military History subjects regards |

Thanks ITALWARS and Syr Hobbs Wargames for your detailed response. I was fervently hoping that the Mirliton figures would be compatible as I really like the way they look. My Italians will be serving in East and North Africa, Greece, France, the Balkans and the USSR. My interest in WW2 Italians comes from listening to stories that my brother's father-in-law told. He was an Italian POW captured somewhere in Africa and held captive in South Africa. After the war he stayed in South Africa and married a local girl. He passed away in May 2008, aged 92. |

I bought all my WW2 N. African theater Italians from Mirliton. They are 20mm and are same sized as my FAA and other brands. They painted up very nicely and the number of poses is pretty good. The weapons, MMG, light and heavy mortars look like the type of weapons they used and not just a generic weapon. |

Big sized, yes goes with plastic. Another range that would fit, warmodelling. |
