I second "Brazen Chariots," but also include "Take These Men" by Cyril Joly. Both Joly and Crisp served in 7th Armored during the same campaign and the books describe the same battles from different perspectives and regiments. On the other side of the hill try "With Rommel in the Desert" by Heinz Werner Schmidt. |

To add to the above, Tobruk, by FM Lord Carver. There are also lengthy sections on the desert on Mellenthins "Panzer Battles". |

My Western Desert book list can be found here: link For Operation Crusader you NEED "Sidi Rezeg Battles 1941" by Agar-Hamilton and Turner. If 41 is your thing this will be the best book you ever buy. IMHO Operation Crusader is the most balanced period to game and worth more than a look. |

The Desert Generals…Corelli Barnett does a solid in showing just how good the Auk was compared to Montgomery. Auk was flawed and human, but he knew how to win! Second Pitt, Jackson and Crisp also! |

Niall Barr's Pendulum of War: The Three Battles of Alamein cover a lot of doctrinal, operational, and tactical issues. Particularly good on the successes and failures of British combined arms. One of my favorite WW2 reads. |

The Desert Generals…Corelli Barnett does a solid in showing just how good the Auk was compared to Montgomery. But not a balanced analysis, rather one designed to attack the Montgomery-as-saviour myth. |

A few more. Douglas Porch, "The Path to Victory : The Mediterranean Theater in World War II", underrated yet very thorough and detailed examination of the entire Mediterranean theater. link Carlo D'Este, "World War II in the Mediterranean, 1942-1945", a concise general history of the Mediterranean theater from TORCH to final surrender in Italy link Bruce A. Watson "Exit Rommel: The Tunisian Campaign, 1942-43", a study of Rommel's command in N. Africa with a focus on Tunisia. link And of course there is always Osprey, for example "Operation Crusader 1941: Rommel in Retreat" link |
